What is the best, 1 high DA link, or plenty low DA?

DA can manipulate. So don't count only DA score. Check the quality of the referring domains of the website.

Yes, a high DA/TF (solid backlinks or referring domains) is always the only one choice for backlink creation.

DA has got to be the worst fucking metric that has ever been conceived. I mean, it's not just bad, it's like 800 times less useful that PA, and PA is already complete trash. I mean, PA is like 300 times worse than the metrics from Majestic/Ahrefs, and DA is 800 times worse than that.

Anyway, what did I even come to this thread to say? Oh, right, DA is trash. Especially things that are "high DA." "High DA" usually means that it's on:

• Some giant website that hides your shitty free post in some corner that is completely disconnected from the site's actual authority (i.e., your post has no useful internal linking to it)
• A web 2.0 subdomain that doesn't actually get any benefit from the main domain's DA (your subdomain has no useful internal linking to it)
• Some site that was spam blasted with garbage (and might have internal linking to your post, but it doesn't matter since the site is complete trash)

In conclusion, DA gave me cancer. I must leave now to get to chemotherapy.

I hate when I see seller in Fiverr or even here saying things like : I'll give you High +93DA links.
And yes you're correct. No internal linking means 0 trust from those HQ websites even with do-fo link.

You can always go with the Quality over the quantity. And you can focus on the other metrics such as Referring domain and TF too,

As others pointed out, quality should be your preference while getting links for your website. TF is also one good factor to consider while getting links from a website as it is very hard to get manipulated.

If you wish to work on the website for long-term then high DA links on niche relevant blogs will be really helpful.

Focus on quality not quantity, so less good links is better. Which metrics you use is up to you ... I use TF, PA, ref.domains, ahrefs metrics... but in the end it's important what backlinks the backlink has, not what metrics - these are third party data.
