Ranked first, but getting no traffic

Using a combination of George's Brown Google Sniper and autoblogging, I'm already ranking first on Google for my targeted keyword.

The problem is that there is no traffic coming in.

Here are the keyword stats:
Match type: Exact
Local Search Volume August: 27,100
Global Monthly Search Volume: 12,000
Under quotations SERP: 105,000

I was expecting some 100 UVs from Google alone, but after a week in the first place, I am only seeing 1 or 2 visitors a day according to Google Analytics, and around 10 according to AWStats.

It's cool to reach the top spot, but I was expecting a lot more traffic.

Is this normal? Is being on the top spot for Google SERP overrated?

Please give me some clues.

....you sure your ...searches are right??? Ms seems to be more acurate with finding out what trffic a keyword gets ....if you want pm me the keyword and ill get the exact daily searches it gets .......dont worry im 110% into ewhoring dont got time for the big g right now lol

is this a long tail keyword? is your meta description relevant for what people are looking for?

Keep in mind that Google regularly rotates content and you may not rank the same on every nationalized version of Google.

Unless you say the keyword you are talking about all you will get here are a bunch of guesses and "I think"s

I have actually had that happend to me. I went into a niche based on the keywords results for the google keyword exteranl tool only after achieving first results find out i did not get close to the main number of results.

As per your suggestion, I tried MSN Keyword Forecast but it doesn't seem to take two words keywords. Then I tried something called spacky.c0m and got these results:
Google 14,800 ; Yahoo 7,696 ; MSN 3,552

So it does seem like a good keyword all across the board.

I did check on a different browser and got the same results. Will try the proxy tip in a while but can't imagine it making a difference.

of course it is normal google databese is not right

try this keyword no adwords to see how much impression will you have for 1 day, but I don't believe in these impressions too.

Don't have the budget. The CPC on the keyword is at $2 and don't want to spend the money when I am already ranked first.

is this a long tail keyword? is your meta description relevant for what people are looking for?

It is a two words keyword.

The meta description is the only thing I can think of could be shying people away from my site. As far as I can tell, it is exactly what people are looking for, but I will have to try other Meta descriptions to be 100% sure.

Keep in mind that Google regularly rotates content and you may not rank the same on every nationalized version of Google.

I also tried searching the keyword on google US (I am in Canada) by going to:

http://www.google.com/ncr

My site is also listed first there.

Good point nufaman. I am not too excited about sharing the keyword though. Call it n00b jitters.

I can tell this much:

• The domain is the keyword .com
• First word is a TV show
• Second word is "video"
• And yes, people search for the two words together

So did you keep trying using the same technique? I am taking IM step by step, first working on my keyword research skills, then working on my SEO skills. But now that I know how to rank first on a well researched keyword I would like to start getting traffic so that I can move on to writing copy.

Maybe I just need to bite the bullet, and keep trying with other keywords.

Is that keyword placed throughout your site? Is it a string of words?

I totally agree for some reason when I am logged into my G account and search my keyword it always shows me #1...I guess its where I have visited it so much. But after logging out I am usually at the bottom or somewhere on page2.

When going for a keyword, my best advice is to use common sense. No tool is 100% and most are misleading. Stick to what you know when it comes to searching for common terms.

my 0.002 cents says this:

Google KWT divide exact results by .67 as .33 is their SEARCH PARTNERS RESULTS INCLUDED (aol etc) - then - be conservative

1000 really = 670
670 may be 350??

what do you guys think ?

Also - is the KW in question a BUYING PHRASE - like bbest widget at the best price - or best widget for sale etc

I recommend getting a proxy and searching with that. Google displays pages you have visited higher in the SERPS unless you turn off the option somehow. Your site will appear much higher in the SERPS for you than anyone else.

I am not sure how to use google trends correctly. Do you compare your keyword against some popular keyword? If so, what keyword do you compare against?

Big thanks to you jdog37! This is it! When I log out of G, I drop from #1 to #8 in page 1.

So now I do need to work on SEO. Linkwheel, backlinks, etc. Will report back if I get to the #1 spot.

I wonder if there are some really, really compelling paid ads on the page that are sucking all the traffic juice to their squeeze pages.

If the meta description/title is not filled with juicy sales words/incentives, it may not be the most intriguing.

Try using http://www.google.com/insights/search/ and search your keyword, then try search your keyword by country or period of time, etc., maybe that keyword has diferent trafic levels along the year.

Yeah, the thing is that I am not first. I'm more like #8. Figured it out by following some of the tips in the thread.

The keyword and potential is still there, so I am working on a linkwheel to see how far up in the SERPs can I get.

Yeah, at this point I think I messed up by not logging out of google while searching for my keyword. The SERPs were showing me as first because of my own clicking on my SERP link.

Try using http://www.google.com/insights/search/ and search your keyword, then try search your keyword by country or period of time, etc., maybe that keyword has diferent trafic levels along the year.
