What algorithm update happened to me? (out of the loop)

Hi all,

I've been through other algorithm updates in the past and have normally been able to pin point what occurred, but this time i'm a bit confused as it hasn't occurred for all pages (just a subset). Here is what I notice over a few domains:

  • All pages are still indexed
  • Some pages are still ranking like they have before
  • Some pages have completely disappeared from SERPs (but are indexed)
I'm not sure if this is an algo update, or manual review for certain pages? Here are my questions around possibly fixing this:

  • Should I create a new Webmaster account and add one of the sites to see if manual reviews exist? (not a big fan of having my sites in Webmaster tools)
  • Can I simply create a new URL and add my content to it? (I realize the same issue may come up again)
  • Should I just use a new domain although I am getting traffic from other search engines?

Thanks for any suggestions!

... What about you checking your search console to see if there are issues with you pages lately . Recently Google has been sending me emails of pages having issues and most happens to be in de-indexed state.

Picking up these reconmended pages by google & manual indexing again got it fixed for me . I think you want to add your website to GSC and see where the main problem is coming from .

I added my site to Search Console but no issues other than the "Improve your search presence" message. I have added the sitemap for my site as well so will see what happens. These pages are still indexed, and I can find them when I search for large blocks on text I wrote on each page. However no rankings and it's been like that for months.

Any other thoughts from anyone?

So this is a page level targeting by google. Page level targeting is mostly for content or outward links from your pages. Are there too many outbound links from your page or is your content alright ?

Thanks - but wouldn't that mean the page in question wouldn't rank for anything? It seems to be the "main" keywords that aren't ranking. For instance "best portable vacuum" (made up keyword) is no where in the SERPs, but "best portable vacuum for kids" (made up) is. Again no manual webspam notification in Search Console so am wondering if this is something algorithm related?
