Gmail has a way stronger spam filter than basically all other email account providers. Which is nice, for your actual personal accounts, but a huge pain in the ass when transferring a ton of accounts to someone else.
  • Try to log in from a different location?
  • Try to log in with a mediocre proxy?
  • Do anything remotely suspicious?
Any of those things tend to result in getting locked out of a Gmail account until either doing phone verification or otherwise going through account verification steps.

While your buyer may very well be using amazing residential proxies and might have a giant box of SIM cards to get back into any arbitrary account, a ton of buyers aren't going to have those resources. And even if they do, it's still a pain in the ass.

Personally, I recommend https://tutanota.com for accounts that you're planning to sell.

Yeah, that happened to me on one of my old personal Gmail accounts fairly recently. I logged into it for the first time since 2015, went through my emails for about a minute before it auto-logged me and locked the account. Unfortunately, my recovery email was a Yahoo email account that Yahoo deleted due to inactivity, so... Yeah, I can't access it. All well, I suppose.

What's your opinion about Yahoo accounts and mail.ru accounts for this ?

They're probably fine. I haven't tested either one too much. Definitely easier for buyers to get into than Gmail.
