This is most likely the best way because KWfinder gives you an estimate of the traffic you get from each keyword. You can also see an estimate of your competitors and make an idea if it's even worth trying to rank higher for a keyword.

Keyword Planner as a starting point.

Other than Google, only ClickStream provides relevant data in terms of Keyword performance. Ahrefs is at the forefront of utilizing ClickStream data, so you can pretty much trust them.

The only discrepancy with the real results is the update frequency. Ahrefs bot doesn't parse results each day, so you are always a bit behind. Nevertheless, that is the best option around from my experience.
