Which strategy to use with 3k

How much risk do you want?
You could pick the top 3 crypto and you would have pretty good chance of them going up in short to mid term, but they’re not going to go more than 50% increase.
Or you could pick 15 crypto and you have a fair risk they could all go down so you lose money, but also chance one could go up 500% or more.

Both options would build you a good portfolio. Make sure you research into those coins before investing.

You should do both. Pick 2-3 long term coins as a store of value , they should be seasoned coins that have proven themselves and are resistant to excessively wild price fluctuations and volatility. IE bitcoin , ethereum , litecoin etc. I would put 1.5 to 2k into these and play the market with the rest. Take a little and play the market with altcoins and newer projects , they are more volatile but present much higher chance for a come up overnight relatively speaking , like your trons , ripples , cardanos etc. also maybe save a little money for upcoming Icos , treat those like the lottery being that you only really want to spend the minimum they will allow you to contribute unless you really really believe in them , that way you could care less if they never come to market or go bust, but icos present probally the easiest way to see massive returns in short time periods. Whenever your doing well in the newer alt coins , icos or anything outside of your store of value coins , take a little profit or cash them out completely into your store of value coins when your altcoins are at all time highs. This way your building your long term coins up and keeping the money in the crypto space instead of cashing out to fiat. I would personally put 1500 in long terms , 1k to play the altcoin market , and 500 on icos if I was new with 3k to spend but that's just me.

My risk tolerence is high but with option 1 I fear of missing out if one of the other 10 that I didn't choose goes to the moon.
On the other hand, is 10 to 12 cryptos too much diversification with only around a $100 investment each since only my top 3 picks will get $500 while the others only get $100 ...

Use 1k on 10 alt coins at $100 each. And use the left over $500 to use on icos or swing trade other trending alt coins.
I just don't want to be spreading myself thin with only investing $100 over multiple coins when I can do $500+ on certain ones hoping for bigger gains.

Whatever strategy you go for, keep 20-30% of investment aside to enter when ur portfolio takes a dip . Lot of beginners regret not doing this.
Also its not necessary that you have to invest all 3K at a time. You can build ur portfolio step by step by doing regular research and taking inputs from experts.
I built my portfolio of 4k in 3 weeks time.
