Is LinkedIn created mainly for the IT people?

Hey people. I have many complaints from my LinkedIn friends in terms of their failure for landing a job position. They have great professional accounts with recommendations but they don't land any related job, no one is interested in their applications!

On the other hand, if you just one programming related term in your account (like data mining), you immediately appear in many job searches. My account is not related to programming, but I just added the expression "data management" and lots of IT companies started looking into my account. This gives me the impression of LinkedIn being an IT-oriented platform. What's your impression?

There probably is more emphasis on tech but I think thats reflective of the job search / recruitment niche as a whole. I think tech right now is a booming industry and one where there is lots of money to be made for recruiters.

I got it. I guess I should start learning some tech and insert it into my LinkedIn account to make it more attractive. Cuz at the moment I feel myself like a LinkedIn loser whose notifications page is usually empty...

I find that LinkedIn mostly attracts a circle jerking mentality. If you're posting things like "I thought I totally nailed my interview but then I was rejected" or "Wow...the biggest companies don't own stuff!" or things of that nature, you will have no problem attracting notifications.

Tech definitely rules LinkedIn. Over years I have seen other niches come and go, but tech stays. Also other niche hiring is usually more close circled, they prefer hiring people from known companies, etc. So they do not cast wider net. Tech hiring is almost global, they are open to people from anywhere as long as the person is good.

I agree. There may be more IT-related members and opportunities on linkedIn than other niches/fields. Focus on making your profile attractive to future employers and good luck on your job search.

Most of my network on LinkedIn is in the technology sector but I do have connection in other sectors and they are active in terms of posting, interaction with other members.

In terms of finding jobs, I still find that specific industry related job post websites are best - just my own experience tho

Ive seen contacts that work in different places non-tech related, but their companies have online presence. So technically most of big companies require Linkedin profiles.

Use linkedin to find the recruiter and then you can smooth talk them and have a leg up on the competition

I.T field people search job in linked in other field people no search job in linked in

Linkedin is for professional's by professionals. Perfect place for PR agency's scrape for CV's ;).

I agree, that Linkedln is for IT people mostly. However, you can find other people without any problem.
