Domain Investing Help

For reasons that go back several years, I refuse to use GD. I have been frequenting several expired "auctions" across several registrars. So far, I am liking dynadot.com's services. I was using name.com for a while, because a few years ago they were small and I really liked their service and security, but they focus mostly to the individual domain owner, and they have outgrown themselves. Have been checking out sedo.com as well.

I also visit a list of domain registrars to see domains they control that they are listing as expiring or deleted.

For domains that I really want, I put their expiration dates into a google calendar, and I set the reminders so I can start to watch them. I have managed to snag a few domains that I wanted using this method.

As I mentioned earlier, I also have my text list of several thousand domains that I run through various checks. And again, I really should automate this.

Theres no way to know that for sure. I mostly buy 3 letter domains which will always go up in value. I go for 1 and 2 word business related domains too. I don't go for a specific niche, just anything that I know has value in any niche.
Questions for you man:

1. If you needed quick cash for whatever reason, how confident are you that you could unload your domains for atleast breakeven and how would you go about doing this? How fast do you think you could do it?
2. Do you mostly focus on domains you can buy for $xx,xxx, $x,xxx or cheaper?

I've never purchased domains for the sole purpose of investing. I've sold quite a few maybe 3-5 per year average. All sales have been buyers who have contacted me about the domain. I sell mostly between $250 and $500. The most I've ever made was a $1500.00 sell on a 5 year old domain. I purchase domains when I see ( what I think ) is a good one or a great domain for development. I've had pretty good luck with ebay sales on a few, I park at undeveloped.xom. It's a new site, still in development, no sales. I've had a lot of interest and contacts on domains listed there and like the direction the site is taking.

Investing in domains for a living or retirement, I would really hate to bet that big on a payoff. A hobby however isn't bad. Domain sales are profitable and there is always a lotto ticket winner, once in a while. Unfortunately every one thinks the value of there 45 character domains is worth millions. It's this dreamers disease that over saturates most auction/selling sites. If I was going to invest in domains full time, I would try to find the great ones, but stick to selling low end sales. Register and sell for few hundred. I would also try to stick to generic brandable domains that can be used for any company, product.

I would never buy a 10-25k domain and expect it to hold or increase it value. I'd rather develop. Domineers ( no offense ) are an IN crowd, private forums, vegas auctions, most all I've spoken or dealt with seem to have severe ocd issues. It's a really weird scene. Investment wise, I would look at other opportunities.

To me price isn't really something I factor in, more so getting a good deal on something I think has great potential. I only spend low $xx,xxx max per domain though and anywhere from that to as low as $12

My 3 character domains are for sure liquid, I could turn around and resell them at break even any time, I would either contact other investors I know to off load them or I would post them on NameJet. My other 1 and 2 word domains are a different story though. Some are liquid and I could break even if need be but others I would probably have a hard time getting back what I paid for them, given the percentage that GoDaddy (20-25%) and NameJet (15%) commission.

I am always interested in every form of an investment.

How does one go about domain investing. This is my vision of what happens - Buy a smart domain that would be wanted in the future and keep it until somebody wants it and make profit? Am I right.

So if somebody could help me understand, I'd appreciate it.

Hi, you need billion dollars capital to run domain business exactly. If you don't have sus as capital then ignore this business.

anyone who wants to do something with domains and investing, pm me your skype.

The domain should be small, catchy. Four letter domains make good amounts. You can search many websites and buy a 4 letter domain for under $100 and then resell it for $500 or put it in a auction. Easy profit there.
How can you buy 4 letter domain just for $100, are they in .COM or another extensions?

You research the domains, buy ones that you think have potential in the future and then price them accordingly and wait for the buyers to come to you. Its not about making money every month, its a long term investment, its not hey spend 1m today and make 100k every month forever. You're thinking about it wrong and don't know anything about the domain industry, so spreading false information.

It works like that but it’s not easy. No body can predict what domain gonna sell or not...

Sir, you must learn domainning then invest and earn money before spam my post. I am 20 years in web base properties as well, and understand that i need to stop posting/comment reply etc, because it will waste my time! However, i register here to search an investor to run an innovation eCommerce project which will make $2 million/week for 200 years. Good luck everyone!

I know domaining, I've been doing it for a long time now. Wanna compare your portfolio to mine? You're a joke, you clearly just proved that. I'm done with you.

This domain was aged, I bought it for SEO purposes and I bought and started that company 4+ years ago, well before I started domaining. Please, show me your portfolio, then I'll show you mine.
