The photography world dug hard into the Kodak ICO

"We found a deleted page that reveals the paparazzi roots of Kodak Coin: "The evidence strongly suggests that Kodak Coin is the re-branding of an initial coin offering called RYDE coin that never got much attention and was apparently aborted days before Kodak Coin was announced. Until recently, the project had a page on the crowdfunding site Start Engine."

"January 8th, the day before the big announcements, seven members of Kodak’s board of directors had acquired derivative securities (which are convertible into common stock); this according to SEC filings. So, in other words, the day before this major announcement many members of the board of directors got in a position to take advantage of the growth in Kodak stock when the announcements hit the following day. In fact, of those seven directors, two of them made stock sales on the 9th, and two more of them converted the derivatives they had just acquired and converted them into stock before selling them. So, four of the seven directors of Kodak made money on the announcement"

Hieee!!

Woke up this morning and downing my cup of morning coffee as I'm reading the news. Then I saw this:

Kodak currency
Kodak's other initiative, the KodakCoin, is being created as part of an effort to build a global ledger of picture rights ownership that photographers can add their work to.

Associated KodakOne software will be used to crawl the web and find pictures that have been used without permission.

The company said it would then "manage the licensing process," so the photographer can be paid, in KodakCoin.

"Kodak has always sought to democratise photography and make licensing fair to artists," said Kodak chief executive Jeff Clarke.

"These technologies give the photography community an innovative and easy way to do just that."

The company's shares traded more than 130% above their opening price after the announcement before closing the day 119.4% higher.

But one expert had doubts.

"Storing the information in a blockchain doesn't protect your copyright any more than copyright law already does," commented David Gerard, author of Attack of the 50ft Blockchain.

"Notice how they're marketing it: they state a problem, then say the blockchain can solve it. But there's no mechanism by which the blockchain could do that.

"This doesn't do anything that signing up for Shutterstock or Getty Images wouldn't."

Even so, some think Kodak will not be the last household name to associate itself with an ICO.

"I expect we are going to see more major brands releasing their own tokens and currencies to support various products and services," commented Mr Hileman.

"It's something many big companies are thinking very hard about."

Sounds pretty good. I know there's already POET coin for this similar purpose, but Kodak has brand value. Although it was a failed photography company (for failing to adapt digital cameras during the early boom) and had filed bankruptcy some time ago, its brand name is still trustable and loved by photographers.

On the other news, I am happy that Kodak is finally making initiatives to new markets to be profitable again (Make Kodak Great Again).

I've signed up for their newsletter to receive updates about this ICO. You can sign up here if you want:

P.S: I've also included the drawbacks of the coin as it has a point. So it is up to you to decide whether it would be a hit or not :p

The ICO sphere is becoming quite ridiculous. It's insane how failing companies like Kodak can jump on the ICO train and their stock increases by 120% in one day.

I thought Kodak was dead :D

I thought so too, but photoshops (as in, physical photo shops, not that software) in my area still have their labels posted on their walls. Kinda still kept the memory alive. My mom still had the good old O' fashion Kodak camera stored somewhere.

Yeah, I know. Just like how that long island iced tea company changed its name to long island blockchain or something and its stock price soared 100%+.

And the news about Seagate. When it was leaked that Seagate funded Ripple in its early stage and people are wondering how much ownership Seagate has on Ripple... this also caused Seagate's stock price too soar.

But there's one thing I can guarantee that will happen. After the ICO of KodakCoin it will dip very badly like most ICOs do. So... those who wants to participate in the ICO, do get out when the price surges then buy back when it dips :D

Haters gonna hate.

There's something that confuses me. An ICO to fund a mining project. Their Mobile Mining Unit (MMU) seems great and feasible. But it is kinda bulky, and I believe each unit will be costly. Not to mention that mining will become exponentially harder over time, so will the returns. By then, I'm not sure if they could even cover its cost, let alone pay dividends back to investors.

So anyway, I was Googling about Envion when I found some site:
https://icodrops.com/envion/

Seems like the coin's receiving so much investment money due to hype, prolly from their marketing. Most importantly, read the second link.

Is this true/valid?
Can't participate "USA is restricted from ALL ICO's" or did that change in the past 5 minutes?

I’m pretty sure it’s always been, but I don’t think it’s possible to enfoat the moment. US citizens are not supposed to be allowed to participate in ICOs but it’s mainly on the company to enforce.

Kodak is fully regulated and already in the US stock market. They can emit their own bonds and other securities and be liable in US legislation.

ICOs from China, Korea, etc, can't that's why they're banned in USA. US did not ban ICO, they banned unregulated ones.

For example: for US investments you need U$ 1 million to enter ICOs, so it guarantees small private investors cannot go in and risk their college fund money.

Wait, what? To me it's just milking a cow (albeit almost dead) while a few from 90s generation still remember the name and can associate. Real value? 404.

Kodak is licensing their brand to Spotlight.
Spotlight builds mining-specific computer systems.
Spotlight will rent their machines, called Kodak KashMiner.
Rent is for 2 years and $3,400 payment is due at sign up.
Earning estimates (from Spotlight) of $375/mo and $9,000 over two year period.

Catch: Spotlight gets to keep half of all proceeds generated from mining.
