Hola,
What are the best HODL coins according to you guys in 2018, for long term investment?
What are your personal portfolios?

i use XRP for long term holding, and then i play with dozen small coins

how often do you usually trade per month if not hodling?

Quite often. I got in on this one yesterday after JR business promoted it: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dfscoin/

Bought in $1K at around $.20 and sold at $.88.

But I do hold most coins for longer than 10 hours.

Electroneum for the short term, Sumokoin for long.

Electroneum has great optics, and a good plan to get as many eyeballs at it very quickly through a mobile miner, which they pad with pre-mined coins to get as much consumer and general public awareness. This is likely to happen in a few months, and I suspect Electroneum is planning to use this uptick in value to finance tech development (something they appear weak in).

Sumokoin is a young coin, and a fork of Monero. So far they seem to be very technically competent and have quickly created an Android wallet. They haven't missed a deadline in their clearly laid out roadmap and have had little technical issues in the way. In time to come they may rival Monero, but for now they supplement the coin.

I hate to HODL, I just Day Trade (Scalp) for 1 - 5% per trade and reinvest for compounded interest (do the math for 1yr). BETTER!!!
But I generally only buy the Exchanges Coin, if they have their own.
Think about it if it fails then the exchange will fail... FYI...

So the trick is to buy high amounts of small term profit coins, right? Like XRB is probably going to moon and I have around 1.3 XRB, is it pointless since my profits will be minimum or is this advisable for new crypto players? I've always been a HODL kinda guy but I'm trying to understand how you guys do it and try to do the same :)

Any help would mean a lot.
Thank you.

do you have some good trading skills to daytrade successfully for years?

I'm holding POWR for the long run and lots of FART for the short term (couple hours max).

If you like IOTA but don't like what's going on with them, check out XRB (Raiblocks). IMO the best community for any coin out there. Instant transactions (can process 7,000 transactions a second compared to ripples 1500 a second and bitcoin's 7 per second), no fees for transactions, NO MINERS. Lots of people jumping on board right now. Rebrand coming soon and I suspect we see it moon this year
