Help! Shoud I use the Disavow Tool?

For one of the websites that I run, I found yesterday in Google Search Console (Webmaster Tools) that I have a backlink from a porn site. I have never asked for any links from that site, so probably put there by a competitor for Negative SEOing me. Should I use the Disavow tool to remove it? Or should I ignore it?

Just disavow them mate, Its irrelevant to your niche means just disavow them.
It would reduce your site quality so just remove them.

You should disavow the spam links.

If it's just one link, I wouldn't bother. People use disavow tool way more often than they should. Disavow serves as a last resort and one random, most likely, automated porn link won't screw your site really.

Thanks Nargil, I read the GWT Help on Disavow Tool again and it says that "We recommend that you disavow backlinks only if you believe you have a considerable number of spammy, artificial, or low-quality links pointing to your site, and if you are confident that the links are causing issues for you. In most cases, Google can assess which links to trust without additional guidance, so most normal or typical sites will not need to use this tool."

Early on I recovered some sites by disavowing every single link. Later I used disavow to shape PR like I wanted using external links, just like you can do internal links with nofollow.

Other than that, I've found no use for this tool other than to confess you've been doing blackhat.

Disavow tool is there in case of significant attacks. Google can actually recognize the low quality automated links and doesn't really pay much attention to them. Not hard to filter those out. Touch the disavow tool only when there's no other option.

I guess it depends how old your site is and how many backlinks it already has, too. If it's a relatively new site and say you have 20 RD, it would make sense to consider using the disavow tool... if your site is established and has a good backlink profile then I'd skip it for sure, it won't harm you. I've never been a fan of the disavow tool. In general, if one spammy backlink could harm rankings it would be too easy to harm competitors, so it's not the case.

Actually, agreed with those who say that there is no need to worry that much if you have only 1 spammy backlink and your backlink profile is quite good.
Google is smart enough to recognize those low quality backlinks and not to penalize for that. Cheers!

Google spots spam links and spam sites by default, so in most of the cases, such links will not harm your site performance. However, many sites have been affected by spam links, and the number is rising with each Penguin data refresh and update.
To be in safer side better you use it.

I will tell you my disavow story.
My website was constantly hitting 150+ search traffic daily.
I used disavow tool to remove some irrelevant urls but from the next day my traffic reduced to 120 a day. I was worried!
After waiting for a week i deleted the disavow file and my traffic is back to normal and improving.
What I learnt was not to use disavow unless there are many bad backlinks and there is decrease in traffic.

You can do Disavow that spam link and If you feel any more links are spam, you can also Disavow them immediately.
