And if you have no clue about WP or plugins I would't even thinking about a membership site for now. Focus on how to work with WP

Its the cms based on WordPress and plugin do the functions like membership and other stuff like content protection.

I have only used wix, so if wordpress is like wix with templates etc then I can hack it.

No WordPress is another cms.
I can provide you my services for setting up a membership website if allowed.

Wordpress is self-hosted (unless you are paying for them to take care of it for you). You need to manage the backend and it's not all drag &a drop like Wix. To set up a more advanced site, you'd need development knowledge, otherwise just simply use one of the various Wordpress membership plugins.

It's not as complicated as you think. Go to youtube, type in Wordpress Setup, follow the tutorials on there.
If you don't have hosting or a domain I'd suggest going with namecheap as their support will help you with any problems you will encounter.
Once you learn the basics everything will come naturally as you go.

is wordpress better than wix?

I only used wix once and it was for a landing page but I would say wordpress is way better. I'm sure that's what 90% of people on this forum are using. Definitely look into wordpress and don't think twice about it
