i think social media is not just social, it's also convenience/information. important way for information is the search function. thats how google defeated yahoo.

now the IG search returns garbage. i have tried different tags. ALL top posts have 300 likes only. the reason a post does not have a lot of likes means it just isnt that interesting. when people search and they see stuff not very interesting, that means IG isnt that interesting. whats the point of using it then?

the top posts just dont make any sense. i have dominated some tags for 1.5 years. now no matter what i try, i cannot get in there. it is simply RANDOM! why would people be enthusiastic about random stuff thrown at them?

down it goes, to the toilet.

Instagram has way more potential then myspace in my eyes. It all depends on the functionalities that they want to add in the future. If they try to listen to there users, the sky is the limit in my eyes.

This is not a random change, this is something that has been implemented just recently by Instagram.

IG is one of the largest social platforms out there I don't think it willfall since millions of people uses it this is what i think though

IG was easier to game 5 years ago. It’s not going away, especially with FB very keen on demolishing Snapchat.

If I didn't do business on Instagram, I wouldn't use Instagram. Instagram, IMO, is one of the shittiest platforms I've seen.

IG is mostly used for entertainment, when I have nothing to do I just click on explore page and love the posts there. Moreover, IG helps me being updated since there are many infos uploaded on IG, I just don't search for them because they're posted by accounts I follow.

Good luck to all those who think insatgram will die out so easily

in the past 2 years, IG has grown rapidly, the number of daily/monthly active users, all the statistics are positive. even though its search was (is) always shitty and garbage.
IG is not about convenience/information it's simply about visual appealing and shitty/yellow stuff normal people always love.
Going to top tags is getting everybody crazy as I firmly believe they're constantly making huge changes in the algorithm. their final purpose would be killing organic reach to force the users to pay for ads

From a user point of view I think this is a good chance as everyone will have an equal chance to attract eyeballs. If the content is good enough, users will follow that account. This levels the playing field so that no one can manipulate the ranking system to get max exposure. In the past the top post does not necessary means that it is top content. As some do manipulate the ranking with fake likes and engagement. In this aspect I do not think that IG will die off as it is adopting and appealing to masses.

Blame this change to the markters that abuses the ranking system but this change is a necessary evil to even the playing field for ALL IG users.
