Do you index your social links?

Curious if people here index your social posts / links.

I.e if you get the URLs for Facebook shares / Tweets etc.

With normal backlinks, of course the goal is to index them - but are social links treated the same way?

Indexing a social link isn't easy, as a tweet for example has virtually no content. I tested spamming them (also used 3 indexing services) and maybe 30-50% got indexed over time.

But was it worth it? No idea, didn't really notice either way - curious to hear your thoughts.

There is no need to index them, it is enough to get a social link to your domain

Currently, Google only allows specific social networks to their knowledge panels. They encourage you to add others (like Pinterest!), but the profiles they support include:

• Facebook
• Twitter
• Google+ (shocking, I know)
• Instagram
• YouTube
• LinkedIn
• Myspace (insert joke)

According to Google, the Google algorithm processes the social networks you have identified and shows the most relevant results.

Social links are being used to actually index other links, so there's really no point in force indexing these. If these won't get indexed, then they are definitely crap that does not deserve indexing.

Of course social links "CAN" be indexed, with some effort, but it requires spamming them a bit to force-index. I'm just curious if it's even worth force-indexing them.

I don't think this is something you should worry about, build as many social links as you can but that's it, it's not your job to get those indexed, they will work and help regardless if you do this or not.

Also most genuine shares of mine get indexed already... by genuine shares i mean those done on real pages with real likes.. Generally all shares on my FB page with 50K + likes get 200 or so likes on each post.. Those posts are all indexed.. Though i hand write my posts and they are decent length.. like 100 words or so.. along with a link at the end

Links that are really, truly good (generally) index on their own within 24 hours maximum. Great links (generally) index in a few hours or even minutes.

I use social media to index my websites links. Aged twitter accounts are good for this. Never thought of indexing social links, there is no point for me.

don't index them .. google is checking the big platforms anyway and will get the most of them automatic.
