Can't grow my YT vlogging channel

you only have 5 video bro come on.... doesnt happen over night
i think you spot on i think all new channels should post 5 videos every day for first month minimum to get to monetisation as fast as possible

Just follow the rules do what you live keep learning ways to help your channel.grow and don't give up keep makng more vids and it will happen.... Just not overnight more like a couple months or so you will see one or two videos will catch on or go viral or get posted on some Reddit etc and get a ton of views etc.

Those were some good reads, thanks!

You should try creating longer videos not just for your audience but for some good money.

I don't know if this is a bad idea, but I was going to focus on making shorter 5-8 minute videos as best as I could for a bit to grow my channel, before going to longer videos. I'm not sure if I would watch a Youtuber I didn't know, who had very few subs and posted long videos.

I am no YouTube expert, the only tip I could give you as a viewer is work on your thumbnail game. your last two thumbnails aren't eye catching at all and I don't even feel the 'minimum desire' to enter your video,

I would use different tracks than those generic vlog songs (at-least just for the parts that you are speaking)
Focus on letting your viewers connect to your personality and develop some kind of passion to you and your videos. Only my two cents from a viewer's perspective.

I didn't realize my thumbnails sucked so much. I just uploaded a video 30 minutes ago with a more dynamic (I hope) thumbnail. And as far as the music - I am afraid of using popular music because I eventually want to monetize all my old videos and don't want them copyright stricken. And this new vlog, I tried being a lot more intimate with my audience. I'll see how it goes, but I liked the video more because of it.

I’m gonna be straight up. No vlogging channel has exploded in the first month as of this year, it’s very rare. Just keep doing some dope shit that people can’t do themselves or can’t be bothered.
If you be patient and do what I said along with what your doing already, sharing on ig and other socials mid 2018 you’ll see tremendous growth.

I think I phrased my topic poorly. I don't expect to blow up with my first few vlogs of course. My concern was that viewership, and engagement dropped severely after my first (mildly successful) vlog. This is very strange especially because I posted the first video with no subs at all and now I have about 60.

The content is fine. It's pretty good actually but honestly you're just being impatient upload one video a week for a year THEN you can say you're not growing. Your channel is growing fast for a vlog. the fastest growth happens with Prank, clickbait, and reaction channels.

Same as above. Maybe I'm being a bit impatient though. :)

darrel evens pro youtube expert channels they got a picture of them selves on right and text on left, no one is using yellow text all using blue or professional color text, your thumbnails doesnt show your face lacks consistency and has yellow text which makes it look like gaming niche.
2nd in this niche i think u need subscribers real subscribers, i didnt see channel trailer or on your banner saying your upload schedule these are both important factor people like consistent content creators take example of watch mojo that say we upload new videos every day you should say this at start of every video when you gonna upload your content.
3rd post your videos all of em in Reddit r/youtubers there apply for review video section for that you need to do reviews of two videos on same day of getting review for your own youll get promoted but not only that you might get some good advice.
4th after getting like 4 to 5 videos out go to traffic sources in analytics see what people searching for in search tab when they find your content and stick to that niche, a proper direction is needed now to put a proper theme on your proper direction.
5th go for journeys niche like my journey to 500 subscribers and give tips and tricks on how to grow your youtube channel in that
6th try to make playlists and post on your channel which should have your videos dont worry even if initially it has one video this gonna boost your views and also give good impression on your channel

Does the color of the thumbnail text really make that much of a difference? I just assumed it has to be aesthetically pleasing. And I don't think I can make a channel trailer until I have more videos posted.

As for Reddit - I posted in 4 different vlogging subreddits and have zero people comment/like/etc... Not sure what I have to do to have better success on there.

I'll start adding all my vlog to their own playlist, thanks!

I'm by no means an "expert" on YouTube, so I'm not here to teach anything. I'm only sharing what I've learned so far, and maybe you can get some value from it.

  • Networking is 50% of success
Be a constructive member of your community! It seems like the majority of people doesn’t know or just they don’t want to know what that means. It doesn’t mean to annoy people and spam your channel link on people’s videos, messages. It doesn’t mean sub4sub. It doesn’t mean promoting your videos in inappropriate places. Member of the community means TALKING TO PEOPLE! Now go at YouTube browse random SMALL channels, find them in the comment sections of other videos, or in featured channels of other channels. Watch one or several of their videos, watch the whole video, and then leave a POSITIVE comment, write something you liked about it, or suggest improvement if you think it’ll help. Then move to another video, to another channel and repeat. The channel owner WILL respond back because everyone at that stage loves comments, actually it is in human nature we like to be NOTICED.

  • Consistency
This one is obvious. People won't subscribe to a one time wonder. They want consistency. Stick with it no matter what. As long as you have other people who want to watch your stuff, even if it's like 2 people, keep making stuff.

  • Interacting with your viewers
Reply back to every comment on your videos because it builds a community that keeps viewers coming back for more and entices new viewers to become subscribers. This used to be standard advice for blogs, and for some reason, people don't follow it on youtube. If someone takes time out of their day to comment on your tiny youtube channel, you owe it to them to at least thank them.

  • Humans are visual creatures
I have heard people on the Internet suggest that as far as your channel is great, your branding doesn’t matter. This is wrong and dangerous. We are attracted to aesthetically pleasing views and we will always favor something beautiful to something ugly. Now take a look at your channel art and profile icon - can you improve them? Same goes for thumbnails of every new video - check them twice before posting.

  • Timing uploads
This really works. Upload when the majority of your subscribers are online. I learned that by uploading at peak hours (Fri and Saturday mid to late mornings) I was able to instantly increase my viewership. It's easy to do this with the "schedule" feature when you upload on YouTube. I didn't know about this until a couple weeks ago, but I'm sure this is probably common knowledge for most of you.

  • Focus On Quality Traffic
You must know who is your target audience. Quality Traffic comprises of people you want to target who watch complete or most of your video. They find your content purposeful and engaging. These are the people who are likely to share and like your videos. You will get subscribers only by driving quality traffic to your channel.

  • Personal benefit
I used to not be able to speak for 10 seconds uninterrupted on camera without getting shy and starting to stutter. Now, I feel more confident on camera and in my day to day life. If there's a single way to force yourself to become a better, more confident speaker- it's through making videos. This is HUGE.

Above all, YouTube is a second largest social media network and second largest search engine in the world. Go there interact with other people like on any other social platform and make sure you have optimized your videos for search engines.

Thanks for the response!

Is there a way I can figure out what time is the best to upload for me? I assume my analytics might not matter too much yet because I only have 69 subscribers - so the data might not be a good representation. As for my target audience... I really have no idea who that is. I assumed a lot of younger people would watch my stuff, but it's mostly just people my age who came from my IG.

Depending on your audience. You need more data than only 69 subscribers. For me, it is Thursday or Friday. From my analytics, I found out that views on whole my channel have spike on those days and Monday is the day with lowest view count.

I guess I will just have to go off of my IG analytics for now until I have more subscribers.

Don't bother with that at this stage. Use all your energy to create awesome content. At the end of a day YT all about the content. If you have good watch time and lots of videos to keep people on your channel, YouTube they will promote you like crazy. YouTube want only one thing: for people to stay on YT and watch more videos.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and do more of a traditional vlog to go along with my travel/adventure thing I'm currently doing. This way I could at least upload twice a week instead of just once.
