Net Neutrality is the regulation and fair treatment of all websites on the internet. Without this, not only will consumers be impacted, but the most hard hit will be small business owners. Big companies will have enough volume and money to negotiate deals that keep them functional and profitable. Whether you own a small business, or have an ecommerce shop, this can result in a big cost increase for you.

If you care, go to https://www.battleforthenet.com and do your part. Nothing better than a free and open internet.

The irony of wanting free and open Internet and then completely bombarding my Reddit feed with HUNDREDS of threads about net neutrality.

It's like Wikipedia's donation begging, but on a larger scale.

I just wanna see some well-polished cars and maybe some blackmagicfuckery.

I don't think you know what irony is...

Yo, I'm MC Doesn't Know What Irony is
Walked up to a girl, and I gave her a kiss
She said, "Let's go to your place; I'll suck your dick."
I said, "Hell yeah, bitch, that's so ironic!"

I forgot, you literally can't do anything but troll this forum all day.

They wouldn't pass some shit like this.. I feel like this is all just a huge stunt

The internet is a massive part of our lives now, but I can remember being a kid and not giving a shit about anything internet-related

If you hinder anybody from being able to make use of their most consistent online services, you're only going to hurt the world as a whole.. nobody wants to pay for this trash!

Yeah, that's they point, they will MAKE them pay. You think all americans will give up the internet?

And yes, it will pass, it's been in the works for years and it benefits those in power (Mod Edit: Don't get political)

A common statement from the three (out of five) FCC Commissioners planning to vote against Net Neutrality are saying that the consumers will decide on which internet service provider to use, so the companies whom favor larger corps. won't be used. Yet millions of Americans are locked into their internet service provider and don't really have a choice on who they want to use.

Yeah.. xfinity is our only option here it's ridiculous.

If the ISPs are managing internet lines and traffic and so on then surely its up to them how they do it - thats business right? If they want to introduce different charnging models then they can do so. The way business works is that if they take liberties and charge unfairly then someone else will do a better job and put them out of business.

Net neutrality sounds like a third party that has nothing to do with this business is basically saying "I want to control what you do, instead of you controlling what you do". Doesn't make sense to me, unless I am reading it wrong.

Its like me campaigning that blackhatworld shouldnt be able to decide who can and can't post sales threads on blackhatworld - I think we should all be able to post what we want, otherwise its not fair. It doesn't make any sense.

Then you don't understand what net neutrality is.

It is about treating all content the same way on internet. Its not about free internet. Its about open internet.

Let me give you 2 examples:

Case A (with net neutrality) -
Facebook is big social media platform and is doing great but there comes another platform which gives more freedom & privacy to users than facebook. Then people start uaing that platform and then comes a point when Facebook seems to get bothered by them and thwy improve their privacy policy & user experience and heathly competition continues which gives consumers the benefits of choosing what they want.

Case B (without net neutrality)
Facebook makes a lot of money through the ads. Imagine if a startup which creates better platform than Facebook which offers better benefits than facebook & respects user privacy more than facebook. People start switching to that app. Facebook feels threatened. Facebook makes deals with ISPs that ISPs won't charge for facebook usage. ISPs announce that to consumers. Then who doesn't like fred stuff. Everyone starts using Facebook and that small startup gets shut down because everybody switched to use fb flr free instead of paying for data usage for uaing that startup app.

In even worse case, maybe big companies like Netflix will pay ISPs to slow down traffic to other small streaming sites that will result in consumers getting no choices other than using Netflix.

The very founders of "the internet" are supporting net neutrality. Don't think of net neutrality as healthy business practises as it will kill competition. Maybe some ISPs will reduce speed to load shopify stores & double speed to Amazon. So if your store is hosted on shopify servers then you won't get much traffic and you will have to depend on Amazon for all sales. And thwy will control your business instead of you

Net neutrality is a big scam. Do some research. The net neutrality rules didn't even exist before just 5 or 6 years ago and the internet was just fine. Its the government regulation that makes it "more controlled". Free markets always do better than tightly controlled ones.

I understand what it is completely. I also understand the internet was doing just fine before the concept of net neutrality was brainwashed into peoples minds 6 years ago, which allowed the government to add controls on to the internet and added a ton of government over sight of the internet.

Free open markets are always better.

The internet 5 or 6 years ago is different than it is now.
