Hi BHW,

I'm a little confused about how to get started with Wordpress. I can write a simple HTML .txt file. Say if that's all I wanted for my website how do I get it on the internet through wordpress? I would also like to put a plugin I downloaded on the website. How would I do that? Does Wordpress host my site? Do I need to find a web hosting service?

Get some hosting from bhw, a domain name and install WordPress, one click install, quite easy. Don't use the plugin unless you trust the site, checked the plugin for viruses, Trojan's etc.

If my brother (9 year old) can run WordPress , image what you will do with it within a week :)

a) get domain for your website
b) get shared hosting with cpanel
c) via cPanel create database
d) upload wordpress via FTP (or 1-click install if provided by your provider)
e) visit yourdomain.com and continue with the installation

Google is your friend, thousands of WP tutorials for newbies :)

Can some one recommend some cheap hosting options?

If you need some clarity YouTube is the one

find some hosting on BHW, most will come with domain name and cpanel that you can do a simple install of wordpress .

But use YouTube videos for help.. there are shiz loads

Can anyone confirm bluehost is the best/easiest/ fairly cheap option. It seems hard to beat ~$3 a month.

They are terrible, any company related to hostgator is. Bluehost restrict the amount of visitors on shared hosting. I had an argument with them over it. I'm with bhw member ahead host, check them out, you'll be glad you did

Host-stage and a great hosting provider and a member here. There are lots of providers here in fact.

Most of them will allow you to register a domain when you sign up so you can do everything via the host - pretty much register and follow the instructions.

Once done, you’ll end up with instructions for logging in to cPanel. Once in there you can normally get the option to auto-install Wordpress.

From there you can just pick a theme for your site and start adding content.

With Wordpress it’s not often that you need to know anything about html, or any web language.
