Hi,

lets say that you own 2 EMDs, like this for example:
backpain.com
lowerbackpain.com

The "lower back pain" keyword has a significantly higher search volume than "back pain", but on the other hand "back pain" is the more general term that encompasses lower back pain niche too (so you could do a subpage like backpain.com/lower-back-pain).

So go for the more general EMD or the one with the higher exact search volume? Or any other solution? Guess I could use both at the same time, but I dont want to split my resources if its not necessary...

Lowerbackpain is good..

But nowadays EMD is not important in Google ranking so you can create your own brand name and start building quality links.

Ideally none.

EMDs are a thing of the past. They do not provide any significant ranking boost and will only complicate your overall onsite SEO. With them it gets even easier to end up overoptimised. I would just pick some nice brandable name and go with that.

Also, check the history of those domains. Most of EMDs were used and abused in the past already and might be unrankable however hard you try.

Strange because I have read that with an EMD it's easier to rank because your optimized anchor is kind of your brand no?

No, your exact match anchor is your brand. And that's quite a problem. Having 30%+ exact match anchor won't really help you rank. Maybe in some super spammy niches, but even for those, this is too much. You will end up stuck at 2nd page forever (best case scenario).

Hey Narguil,

Ok, interesting so what anchor repartition do you propose? :p

This has been discussed at least a thousand times here on BHW lately, plus it's not the topic of this thread.

Don't use EMDs and you will do fine. I use 70% brand, 20% URL, 10% rest (something alongside those lines, I vary it).

Ok thank you ;)

I'm new here so I still don't know where to find all the info I need

Well... of course EMD are not as strong as in the distant past, but they still retained some bonus. At least thats my observation of various difficult niches in my country.

Yes, you have to be careful though. You have to know what are you doing, track your anchor text very precisely and I personally just build more URLs than brand anchor texts. It works fine.
