Wording, Google Cached and Ranking

Hi Guys,
A web page on my site was slowly getting worse in Google rankings. I thought this was due to weak content, so I removed about a third of the wording off the page and rewrote it (Better) . I then waited for Google to cache the web page and the rankings dipped again So I removed the new wording, put the old wording back on changed the title and waited for google to cache the web page. The site jumped 4 places so I thought I had fixed the problem, then a few days later it dropped again!

My question is

When Google caches a page does that mean that it has also ranked it? Or does the ranking take effect a few days later after it has been cached? As if this is so did I remove my new wording to soon?

Why you didn't try to change the whole content only changing few words will not be effective.
If you find the page doesn't rank try to modify with fresh parameters dont try to edit that .

Post fresh content replacing the whole content.
