Are business directory sites comparable to PBN?

Does business directory sites works for SEO?

Are they at least comparable to PBN if built properly?

I had an idea to build maybe 10-20 sites to see how it goes, but I would like your opinions first.

It's hard to monetize with directory sites these days so if I were you, I'd go with building out a quality PBN.

I don't think so... First of all, the market is flooded with quality garbage PBN links, to the point where PBN term itself is labeled badly.

If OP can build niched directories properly, this means it will be branded names or naked URL linking, which is far more suitable and non-spammy compared to PBNs who are like "plumber New York" or "best gaming mouse" anchor texts 80% in the entire site (no matter how quality PBN gets).

Directories are also good for diversity links, which is again, not totally a bad idea or rather safe. So long as he keeps them clean and free from spam.
