New to SEO...need domain help!

Hey guys

So normally, I dont like to wait around to get a website ranked, so im not in the SEO game at all.

Im looking to do an affiliate product review blog as a test. Its in the dog niche. I've found a relevant expired domain name using https://www.expireddomains.net so I have a few questions. The domain is around 10 years old btw, not sure if that info matters to you.

1. The domain is expired, how can I know the domain authority and the backlinks of the domain before purchasing? Is there a tool (preferably free but paid is ok).

2. Is it wise to buy a domain with an existing authority?

3. Slightly off topic questions - how do you do on page optimization without over optimizing? Is there a guide/resource you know of for this - if so, send me a link.

4. Is there a tool to check to make sure I've done on page SEO correctly? (preferably free, but again, paid is ok too).

Yes its wise to buy domains with existing authority, if you have majestic, check the tf of backlinks, as well as their PA using Moz, as for how npage is done, lok at the pages on the first page for your keyword on google.

Well the first thing you should look at is, whether or not that domain is spammed to death and whether or not it was abused. Most of them were.

1. Domain age by itself doesn't matter for SEO purposes.
2. Yes, PBNs, one of the main SEO techniques nowadays relies on domains with authority.
3. I don't use tools to check onsite SEO. All in all, try not to rely on tools too much. For some basic tasks/filtering, sure, but pretty much everything in SEO has to be done by hand to be worth something.

That is what I was asking lol, how to do it. How do I know if its been spammed to death - will the backlinks be of low quality?

2. Yes, if you know what you're doing and what you're looking. There are lots of things to check in order to be sure, since you are going to use this as your money site. Personally I use Ahref to check things up. No spamming, no over-anchoring, are backlinks/RDs related to the site, what kind of backlinks/RDs are they.

3. Onpage optimization is plain common sense to me -- make sure your site has good content and word count, make your site faster, and do siloing. And because you're doing an expired domain, round up the best links (where many backlinks are) and rebuild those pages, then use those pages to boost your affiliated page/post. Other than that, I randomize siloing whenever it's necessary. I tend to just write article without plan. But if you want, you can plan the articles so siloing is balance.

4. Google "website onpage checker", you'll find lots of tools.

You can use metrics like TF, DA/PA in determining the expired domain authority. I've personally go for TF>25 , DA/PA>35 in determining a good domain. Otherwise, if it is a hassle to check each domain for its metrics, you can perhaps use domcop as they provide all these stats for the expired domain, and you can purchase that after that.
Just don't put duplicate or spun content on your money site, and never over-spam the keywords on your page.
Well the simple basic SEO tool that you can put on your site (if it is a Wordpress site) would be to use Yoast seo tool, which provides various recommendations to your site/page SEO.

Hey, Just use MOZ to know Domain authority, Page Authority, Spam Score and Number of backlinks and their DA, PA, Anchor text.
Then Use Majestic to check quality of the backlinks.

Based on the quality and quantity of backlinks, you have to choose the best domain, whether for PBN or main site.

Are you going to build main website or PBN?

check with majestic and archiv.org .... or buy some from @Nargil to know its a good one.

Age is not that important in your case.
You should check backlink profile (ahrefs, majestic, semrush), web history (archive.org, screenshots.com), index status (google). After that you can take other domain metrics into consideration like TF/CF, DA etc.
