((THIS IS A DISCUSSION NOT A GUIDE. I REALIZED AFTER I POSTED THAT THE TITLE OF THE POST MAKES IT APPEAR LIKE IT IS A GUIDE. I DID NOT MEAN TO BE CLICKBAITY. PLEASE FORGIVE ME))

As some of you guys know, I've been working on a powerhouse of a directory site with hundreds of thousands of listings and individual pages on the site. I've currently nailed down all the logistics and am currently posting around 50,000 new posts a month.

Right now google has only indexed about 10,000 pages so far. I'm not using any indexing services and instead hoping that as the site builds authority, google will naturally index those pages. So far the indexing process has been steady.

Right now the majority of links I have built have been to the homepage. I've done a press release, some IFTTT syndication, and web 2.0s. Just using brand and naked urls for now to build the link portfolio.

I also have multiple category pages set up for each state. I haven't built any links to the category pages.

I'd like to discuss linkbuilding tactics for a site of this magnitude, with the ultimate goal being passing the link juice onto the individual posts. The majority of the traffic for the site will come from people searching for companies and my site popping up in the SERPS.

Obviously building links to each individual post is out of the question due to how many posts I have. Should I keep building all links towards the homepage, target all 50 category pages to get a more direct dripping effect?

If anyone has any input on ranking big sites, like movie sites, directories, forums, etc, I'd be very happy to take any suggestions.

expected a guide, got a question. I'm disappointed.

I was expecting a guide, then a question, then an answer.

I’m disappointed in the way this turned out.

On a serious note, I’m not really qualified to answer as I haven’t worked on a site of that size, but it seems logical building steadily to homepage and cat pages.

Thank you for your input :P I can't change the title but I added a disclaimer at the top. I didn't mean to piss anyone off lol

Basically all you can do here is to target the "crossroads". You've been targeting the homepage, which is something I would surely be doing most of the time and after that, target the category pages. Going after individual inner pages is simply impossible. Good interlinking and links to homepage/category pages should do the trick. I don't even think it can be done any other way.
