Added a poll as I'd love to see BHW members take on Where is Satoshi Nakamoto???
I know the internet loves a good conspiracy - especially when it comes to someone who has possibly has over a million BTC
Satoshi's profile on bitcointalk just simply stopped posting in December 2010. With the last post talking of "work still to do" with the penultimate one mentioning the Wikileaks problem. "It would have been nice to get this attention in any other context. WikiLeaks has kicked the hornet's nest, and the swarm is headed towards us."
In Feb 2010 Wikileaks had started releasing the "US State diplomatic cables" and soon after the "Collateral Murder" video. All this lead to increasing pressure and eventually PayPal, visa and MasterCard blocking donations to Wikileaks.
On Dec 5th Satoshi posted "I make this appeal to WikiLeaks not to try to use Bitcoin. Bitcoin is a small beta community in its infancy. You would not stand to get more than pocket change, and the heat you would bring would likely destroy us at this stage."
Wiki leaks started accepting bitcoin on 14 June 2011
Satoshi was long gone before then.
Some people say his bitcoins haven't moved but that's kinda hard to prove.
You can follow through the chain from the genesis block and assume that most of those wallets it passes through are owned by Satoshi to (begin with anyway). So he had a lot of BTC and a lot never moved but as for where it all is now you could never know 100% know. The same source is usually cited for the 1 million bitcoins number. It does show it quite well graphically but is based on a 2013 snapshot of the chain.
So where is Satoshi?
Maybe he has been hiding out these last 7 years slowly selling his stash avoiding the early wallet addresses. We would sure as hell know if he tried to dump all 1 Million at once!
Drip, drip selling and living the high life somewhere quiet is a nice possibility but the temptation to comment on the whole fork business must be niggling a little at least? Surely?
More recently with the SegwitX2 fork looming Reddit seems to have spawned this site which is asking for his vote.
https://satoshi2x.org/
Satoshi is asked to vote via a small payment made using those first 50 btc mined and sent to
address (1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7DivfNa) in the first transaction. BTW, notice the first transaction held the message "The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks". A snapshot of the economic landscape Bitcoin was born into.
So maybe Satoshi will break cover and make views known on the 2X fork?
I seriously doubt it. Maybe im just getting old and jaded but I fear Satoshi's disappearance is down to the fact He's dead. And I dont mean in any sort of black helicopter Wikileaks way, I mean the personal tragic shit that goes on in the real world - car crashes, cancer, heart attack, stroke, disease etc
And for that reason I vote 'he's dead'. Its coming up 7 years now and total radio silence - I'll keep praying but am loosing hope.
