Just for domain and hosting. Nothing else to spend on.
A dumb amount of cash.
Probably about £10 - £50, however that was a long time ago. These days you would need a far bigger budget, depending on how you want to go about things. You could still rank a website for very little - £0 practically.
Oh, I didn't make a penny back.At least you made it back.... I hope.

From what I've been trying out, I ranked keyword/s for trending news about a niche which brang in good traffic but all non-buyers.
Would you say you need at least a small budget ( perhaps $200-$300 ) to start off with an affiliate website?
Ye, i guess. Was it one of those try it, failed, learned, move on things?
I invested the cost of the domain and hosting but the real cost was my time. I put way too much time into the wrong things when building my first site. I would recommend ensuring you have a clear plan of action in the short term and long term to be successful, but i would also recommend using this as a learning experience more than a direct money making opportunity. Most people don't directly find financial success on their very first website, so focus and learning from every experience and improve as you go. Temper your expectations, stay focused, and let all your failures serve to only motivate you to be better. As a newbie just learning about everything-ish, I was wondering how much you initially invested into your first SUCCESSFUL website?
AND how much would you say you spent until you hit your first "successful" venture or investment?
It really depends what niche you are in. It is possible to gain high quality links for nothing, it just takes time and effort. Of course it helps to have a budget, and the bigger the better. However if you dedicate all your time to content creation and sourcing quality links, then all you need is time + hosting and domain.
I spent too much on two sites I tried. Highly competitive niches. Still, a lesson learned I guess - it gave me enough knowledge of those niches to create my own product!
Ye, i guess.
I started playing around with websites in early 2016.
First Website: Made 1 bitcoin (was using a btc ad network) without any investments (just hosting + domain) then got banned from the ad network for "poor traffic". > dumped the site
Second Website: Invested about 300$ earned 500$ with adsense over a year which was really low > dumped the site
took a break and learned a lot.
third website coming soon.
in 2014 : domain, hosting, $15 for theme, $10 for backlink and i made $300-$400 / month, , ,but nowadays i dont know.
Mine, roughly $500 for a start. Niche is not too competitive and traffic+ranking gained by itself without heavy lifting in backlinks, so when I put a little stress, it shot up and start earning within 2.5 months.
