Value of guest posting from authority sites?

I am planning to purchase some guest posting from authority sites but just wanted to make sure whether it would be good for me or not. Which one do you guys think is better, guest posting from authority sites or backlink from PBNs?

I always check metrics and traffic but for authority site, I was meaning Forbes, Huff Post, Inc etc.

More than anything, it's going to depend on how competitive the search term you are targeting is.

A ******** L I N K from huffpo targeting: electric smoker recipes (554,000 results)

will do well to put a page in the top ten, easily.

whereas a ******** L I N K from huffpo targeting: mp3 player (68,200,000 results)

is probably not going to get a page close to the top ten.

Having said that, it's still a good long term SEO strategy and the more links you can afford like this, the better chances for very competitive keywords.

My point is, evaluate how competitive the phrase you are targeting is. One link like that can be all the difference in a low to medium competition keyword making substantial gains in serps. At the same time, one link like that on a very competitive term may not be enough to make a substantial difference.
