I like to use blog commenting to diversify my anchor text by only using url naked url etc... I dont use scrapebox anymore since I actually caught some competitors trying to scrapebox blog comment blast my sites anchor with hundreds of comments to drive my rank down. If people are using it to neg seo its got to be bad haha, but thats only with direct keyword anchors.
I would stick to niche relevant sites that give you a clean link portfolio and high quality comments that double as traffic sources once someone clicks them.

when you are engaging a well written blog on high trusted domain
usually you don't have a Website fields in the comments sections, so most of them are spam,
and its not working properly for more than a year already, i think getting to meet bloggers are the best method, guest posting exchanging , communicating.
so comment sections might Screw you up very quickly,
doesn't have to do anything with that, Backlinking to build PA/DA Gain google trust!
doesn't count no more PA is pretty much dead,

Lets use an analogy, for your statement.
I used to love practicing self defense on targets at the range, with my pistol.
But I hear people use pistols for murders. I don't like murder, so I don't use pistols for self defense anymore.

Bro, scrapebox is merely a tool. If some people abuse it, it is not because of the tool, it is because of the operator.
Scrapebox is an incredible tool, that can be used to FIND the blogs that are highly relevant to MANUALLY reach out to. Just because some people use it to spam, doesn't mean you have to.
Just like pistols don't have to be used for murder.
Use scrapebox for the SCRAPING of information, and Dont use the posting or commenting. Otherwise, you will be hard pressed to manually find and weed through millions upon Millions of blogs to find the select ones to post on. /end rant

spending 2 hours "manually doing stuff"
vs 10 seconds posting random boring standard comments.
results? approval? sticking on high UR/DR SItes? the same. just 2 hours vs 2 minutes effort.
I dont give much about Nofollow BCs
If I go into some new niche,I check the top 10,get their comments, do a small Scrapebox on those links too.
I also check my own sites to see which sites approved blog comments in the past.
but, you have to have some work with that...
check UR/DR and OBL and dont autopost to a bunch of crap sites.
and always (!) check with comments got the highest approval rates and use them more often.

Lol, I'm still using software to post, but I have niche relevant comments ready, and hand select which one to use. It's just copy/paste from a spreadsheet.

Yes blog commenting is still useful as most said. Some advantages are increases RD, helps with anchor distribution, passes little juice, if you do no follow then is it a way to increase your no follow links, can be topical.
But be careful where you do it, avoid the highly spammed pages, try to find clean pages with few comments. And yes it is manual.

Depends on the site. Some allow contextual link, some link from name, some link from URL next to name.

thanks, I have been blog commenting on various platforms so I know exactly what you're talking about. The link from name and URL next to name are easy because chances are if your comment has any value, the moderator will approve without paying much attention to your URL (although I've had asshole moderators remove my link and still approve the comment). the contextual ones, I can never get them to stick.
