Alright. I admit that I am an absolute newbie.
Over the past 2 weeks, this is what I've done. I've taken my website (a real estate website) and added a bunch of subjects at the bottom of the homepage with free advice. The free advice ranges from everything from VOIP, to insurance, to photography, to HDTV, to credit repair, etc..
I actually put about 30 or so subjects in links at the bottom of my homepage that each have anywhere from 8-25 pages on their particular subjects.
Getting next to no sleep over the past few days, I've made linkwheels and found high PR websites to join and post to blogs always pointing to my main website. I've maybe posted to 50 in the past couple of days. Tonight before hitting the sack (my wife just yelled at me to get to bed), I checked on one of the main keyword phrases from my homepage and it was ranked #2 on google when I searched using Firefox (out of 55,800,000 searches) When I put "" around the keyword phrase I'm still #2 out of 1,090,000 on Firefox. I nearly pee'd my pants because besides Adsense I really don't know how to monetize this. I only started using Adsense about 2 weeks ago on this website and made something close to $.78 cents a day which moved up to $2 a day about a week agoa and I've never made more than just a little over $9 with Adsense yesterday (just over $2 today) with about 70 hits.
Anyway, I jump over to Internet Explorer and do the same google search with the same keywords and my site is not even on the first few pages of google as I'm continuing to look through the pages. I clear the cache and I still can't find my site. I jump back to firefox and do the same search on google and lo and behold it is still #2 on the first page. Same thing when I put quotes around my keyword phrase again. What is going on?
My emotions which were once high as a kite go back in the dumpers.
The only difference is that on Firefox, I have SEOQuake setup to give me PR numbers, etc... and I don't have that running on Firefox. Otherwise I'm still checking from google.com.Can someone please tell me what is going on?
I would be more than happy to give someone 50% over the next month to monetize this if it truly was a #2 out of well over a million searches.
Off to bed.
