TBH the value of edu.xxx domain has to be proven. I really don't see why they would give more link juice than any others domain. Google isn't stupid.

+ If there is any value well we could just create subdomain with edu.domain.com ...

Hmmm not sure about the vaule of an actual domain like this.. from my knowledge I dont think it would have any SEO value at all...well I mean not more than any normal domain.. Just my 2 cents
