What are the best whitehat link building techniques that we should be using?

Mailing webmasters of other websites and begging them for a link !

Technically speaking whitehat linkbuilding is an oxymoron.

But asuming you mean something as safe as possible -

Manual outreach
Private handmade pbn (if you know what you’re doing)
Blog comments
Question and answer content
Forum posting

Do it all manually and HQ to keep it as near to whitehat as possible.

It is called " Guest post " - Real, Manual Blogger Outreach Service

the only true white hat method known to man is to post great content so that you will get links without asking; this is as white as it gets; anything else is somewhere between yellow and brown, all the way to pitch black.

This is f*** spamming .. It's worth than buying PBN !! It's the total opposite of white hat

Yes, I Agree. But blog comment is really a great way to diversify your anchor text but it became bad when it is automated or commenting in the spammy sites otherwise it is good, you should find quality sites.

OP asks about whitehat linkbuilding (which doesn't exist) someone say.....PBN.

Facepalm.

Outreach is the only way. Social media, great content, sharing.

The issue is so few people have, or invest in, great content.

Have lately been experimenting with:
  1. Get content on real websites, either as guest posts (real guest posts, not PBNs), through outreach, paying for sponsored content, etc. Make sure content has natural/logical backlinks
  2. Share links on relevant subreddits and buy a bunch of upvotes for all shares.
More SMM focused with SEO as a secondary benefit.

About as "white hat" as you can get. inbeforenothingiswhitehatgodisdead

C'mon guys... how can I be on a whitehat section and be reading people calling linkbuilding "whitehat?" This is why I hate the terms whitehat/blackhat. By definition artificially trying to build up your link profile IS blackhat. You build a PBN, that's blackhat. You beg/bribe a guest post, that's blackhat. You can make an argument that creating viral content is whitehat, but ONLY if you aren't doing anything to try to make it go viral like like-buying or social promotion.

The question OP really wants to be asking is "what are the safest methods of linkbuilding for an otherwise whitehat site I can't afford to lose" given these facts.

There really isn't whitehat seo other than write content and do nothing. It is greyhat and blackhat. Good greyhat seo shouldn't get you penalized so just stick with proven methods of grey hat. I focus on guest posting. Best way i have learned to get quality links back to your website. I just go after high domain authority and pay to have kick ass articles written for them. 1 high authority site is worth 10 low end sites.

Go after 100 high end websites and you should get 10 to post articles. Now you have 10 awesome kickass backlinks.
