If it expires soon and isn't being used you may get it cheaper by back ordering it on GoDaddy and hoping he doesn't renew.

I've done this in the past and it's hard if the owner has no reason to sell. If he's a domainer (someone who buys and sells domains as a profession), it's going to be easier but expensive. And when it's someone who's a normal person who happens to own a domain, it get go smoothly.

I have bought it by contacting the owner he was not using domain any more
