Hi all,
I've been thinking all weekend on the topic of my website. I wanted to pick something in an area I love, and maybe look at options to monetise (affiliate program, ads, etc.).

I love sci fi TV shows. Star Trek, Stargate, etc. So I was thinking of a site that had information about different shows... but here is where I am stuck... I dont really know what sort of content I should go for.

For example, having an episode guide is too much. Firstly there are many other sites that explain what is happening each episode (big wiki's on the net for this). Secondly, I would need to re-watch hundreds and hundreds of hours of TV to write.

On the other hand, having a single page that describes the show seems too little.

Any thoughts on what sort of content might make sense for me? I'm not looking for a magic bullet answer, just looking for high level ideas.

Thanks!

Why not take a content that shows sense concerning the previous events, a kind of letting people understand the event well... Do u get?

The idea seems more like a hobby website.
You are not going to be able to out rank TV show sites in a broad niche like this.
I would keep thinking and come up with another idea.

Yeah, it is probably more like a hobby site.

What about focusing on 1 tv show instead?

Do you plan to stream some content beside all you wrote?

Sure, if you have an idea of a product you can create.
If you were thinking of adsense it's not going to be worth your time (pennies a day if you get any traffic)
Think of the customer first and traffic second.

P.S. Listen to ActiveGrowth podcast, it will help you understand why chasing traffic is a waste of time.

Thanks for the link! I'll check out the podcast.

I was thinking Amazon or eBay referrals. Like "check out these DVDs" or "this toy" or whatever. I guess still not worth it?

I dunno how you would create a compelling enough reason to click the link.

True true, hence the original question.

E.g. Let's say I pick the show "Star Trek" the original series. I could write an episode summary for every episode, have character details and what not. But the level of effort there is huge, not to mention the competition, like you suggest.

A shame, this is an area I could at least see myself following through with.

Alas, next idea it is :)
