Looking to buy my own used server.

Hey, whats up all. Hope all is well in your world. So, I am starting to make some money on my websites, and I want to go bigger, I am at 3 wordpress websites and allready my sites are crashing beacuse I am having some Pyhsical memory overload issues. Updated all my plugins, got rid of the ones i dont use, i am running only plugins, updated to 7.1 PHP , and etc etc... still, sites crash.. I know my Hosting service is not using a dedicated server, what ever... so , instead of paying $100 a month for one, I am going to get my own servre.. so , here is my question... I dont have a clue what to buy. I went to a local IT store near my house and the dood was like, you need Microsoft licence , and bla bla, its gonna cost me 4K.. No thank you ... then i go online and I have some store tell me that i Need what he is trying to sell me, which is gonna cost me $425...

So , can anyone help me tell me what kinda server I would need to run like 50 wordpress sites.

Why not upgrade from a shared server to a dedicated server or cloud server?
Personally I wouldn't advise running an Internet server from home unless you are technically competent and have cash to spend.

Just say no....

If you do not know what you are doing it is going to end badly. Running a hosting server is not for amateurs. Seriously dude just step away from this idea it is not a good one.

It is not the number of the sites that determine how much server you need but the resources they use. How busy they are etc.

Move to better hosting. If $100 a month is an issue your sites are probably not busy enough to need a dedicated box so I would start with a VPS.

Try KnownHost ( knownhost.com ) I have been using them since 2010, and their support is top notch. You can start with a middle of the road VPS and then move up as needed and they will do all the work for you when you upgrade.

Agree with the other replies. The key is support and uptime. you can have problems with your sites that you'll need to resolve anyway but then put in the mix hardware and server software and you'll probably be in big trouble. The cost is also prohibitive, what happens in a year when a piece of hardware fails. What happens when your internet connection is flaky.

To be honest, I have setup my own budget web hosting from wholesaleinternet, and although the entire process is long with a high learning curve, but if you are able to quickly learn in the process, then you can get it setup and the reward is pretty huge in term of savings. The learning curve is very steep, but once you get the hand of it, it's fairly simple -
1) Get a budget server running Windows server
2) Install a virtualizing software
3) Install centos
4) Install WHM/Cpanel
5) Configure server
Otherwise, getting a ready made server would be much simpler , as getting the payment done, and doing some minor configuration, and you are done. I've used Godaddy's VPS before, and they were pretty good in the past, but the price that you are paying is premium.

i setup servers all the time the cost of running one at home will kill you on it own.

the internet line will be crap from home as your restricted and there no way around getting really big lines at home even licenced business at home have problams .

to understand all the apps to administrate WordPress and license needed will cost you a fortune and really not worth the pain.

a home sever will only allow around 10 ppl at once incoming traffic as you can imagine that crap it all line problams not the server it self.

the bigger the website the less user be able to see the page and if your that busy peoole/traffic not even see your page .

be clever and get a good vps and install apache mysql php and wp your self .

it about £60 a month in electricity at home , just not worth it truthly.

you get hardrive go all the time and power pack burn out and fans brake all the time just a pain.

your have to learn a lot of background software .

understand all ini files....
Windows dns services
windows domain services
Windows admintrator features
all the bash commands and features for msdos

just understanding apache will take a month in reading .

forget it to much years read to setup and understand propely.

and then because it at home all needs to be registered with you as a business and insurance .

Try online.net, they have some really powerful servers for much less than $100 a month.
Their VPS servers are also pretty good.

and know exsplain to the poster about his internet line .

as I said the traffic has to be really low because his home incoming ip won't allow a lot , 10 ppl on a website at once max at home that no good for a massive website .....

and don't forget the legal aspects he be running a server on a residential ip

he need at least 3 ip address of his internet line provider .

1 for web server
1 for email server
1 for dns server

unless get a really heigh end computer do it all in one .

more like 2k not $500 it will burn out on 24/7

A server at home is the worst idea possible. If you really want to go the DIY way and are prepared for the learning curve, best value for money is to rent a dedi at OVH or Hetzner.

WOW, thanks for all your help everyone. I really had no idea until now what I was going to get myself into. That is just crazy about running your own server. Yea, I don't need that headache and I would rather spend my time making sites instead of reading apache. Well, looks like I will stay with the hosting and try the referred hosting services you all gave me. Thanks again I really appreciate it!
