The iPhone X is pricey; Apart from the price I believe they have made the path clear for the Augmented Reality and Facial recognition.
These long years Microsoft with the Hololens, Google with the Project Tango, Daqri are fighting hard to get to the customers but they didn't.
The developers around the world will agree to my point. After apple did this; it will open up more possibility for them to create and curate ideas that are still to come alive. This applies to the wireless charging manufacturers, Samsung has brought the wireless charger a year before, why ain't they successful.
Third party manufacturers will start creating it and this launch will bring more possibilities to the gadget world.
They lack in innovation, they are slow in Tech race, not anymore. If they fail to impress you; how they could be a most valued Tech company in the world.

There is not, the only reason is Apple's own, called extra profit. The phone costs X amount to produce, yet 3X amount to buy.
There's a buyer base, who wouldn't buy the same thing, if it'd cost only half the price and it would be cheaper than the competition. Then there are people who loyal to a brand no matter what. Other people automatically assumes if something is the most expensive, it must be the best choice too, which maybe was the case with Apple years back, but not anymore. The rely on these people and the vast majority of the Apple buyer base consist of these elitist consumers, who are led to believe that still Apple offer's the best products money can buy.
I have a few Apple devices myself, which i bought long time ago, when Apple was a company, which truly led the industry in many aspects. No-one says that Apple products are not quality, but nowadays their products are overpriced for what they are and there are better alternatives for cheaper.
The prices are getting raised from year to year and for what reason? They still can't put a decent battery in that god-damned phone. Apple says that the iPhone X's battery will last 2 hours longer than the iPhone 7's (they said the same thing about the iPhone 7 compared to the iPhone 6), very good, but this is a snail's pace and still days away from the ideal. The competition is beating them in this segment too btw. It's not a useless extra feature smartphones are stuffed with and no-one uses, it's a basic feature, which should be one of the first priorities when upgrading a model. If they truly want to lead the industry, concentrate on this instead of the nth useless feature and pump the battery life up to 3-4 days.
At this point Apple is primarily hype and everything else is just secondary. More and more people start to realize this, hence Apple's share on the smartphone market is on a relatively slow but steady decline.
Chinese and other manufacturers are beating Apple's ass in its own game, that's the reality.

Gadgets aren't about perfomance and shit like that; it's about the feeling of owning that phone, the design and the trending. If you have an iPhone 7 or Galaxy s7, do you really need the 8 version? Nope.
Apple knows it better than everyone and that's why they're raising their prices.

Don't purchase products from any company that doesn't trust their own machines to run a presentation. You could hear the Windows 10 alert sound effect during the Apple TV presentation, the guy was a little bit surprised. Just avoid the bullshit this company puts out if your IQ is above 70. They are ripping you off for limited access devices.

You know whats a deciding factor for me? You cant torrent on an iPhone, you cant properly gamble on an iPhone, you cant access the filesystems of your iPhone. Once I got a MacBook Pro as a present. Never had such a bad experience, the BIOS was locked and shit like that. The company released an update in 2011 that killed my display driver than did nothing to fix it rendering the device useless. Their products are complete joke for anyone with a bit of understanding of technology. Of course, my mother loves their shit. "She loves the experience."
