Hello from a broke indie game developer

Is ingame shop something you could do? Or like watch a video for a certain amount of time to earn gold exedra, I played a game egg Inc really addictive with adds that wasn't annoying, and it's 2d so check it out if you want some inspiration

yeah i have those ads too. I use unity ads, for reward ads is 30s not skippable, and i push a skippable one every 5 minutes. I make about 1$ every 10-15 real downloads.
The problem is that people really hate ads in paid games, even if they choose to watch it for a reward! No problems on free games. I lacked experience the first time and that burned the game.
Anyway the problem is not monetising the game, is market it. every day 5k apps are published on the app store alone. There's an insane competition

So here i am. 23 years old and broke as f@@@.
I left school to make games, that's what i wanted to do. didn't want to waste more time. didn't have money for college too!
I learned by my self 2 programming languages , how to use Photoshop, Illustrator , After Effects and after 4 years my first game was ready. published on the app store, got featured by apple in "new games we love" in europe and africa . Priced 0.99$ , with optional reward ads in it. A few people got really mad because of the ads, and their reviews destroyed all my efforts. made less than 500$ and now it's free, with 20 daily downloads.. ALL FROM CHINA, ALL BOTS stealing the game and republishing it on their portals. found one where my game has more than 60k downloads..

Now i'm about to publish a new one, i really believe in it...it's unique, fun and polished.. but i'm also very afraid to burn it.
It will be free, no doubt about that. I'm also saving all the money i can for some ads, i have like 300$ but with 1$ for install is almost pointless.
I have 270 followers on twitter...

What would you do ?

Your game is in swift or unity3d?
Maybe I can try publish it on Android (for 50%) and take care some promotion, ASO things? Of course only if Unity3D

Thanks for the offer but i don't currently build games in unity, i will move to it when i'll dry out my 2d ideas. ^^

Oh not looking to make new games? Have a game idea for Android that I have been on and off working on. If you're trying to market your original I would say I am not the man.

I'll keep making games because i love doing it! My third game will be published on september 7th.
What i meant is that i'm not good at marketing , so if you put the idea, i put the code, but someone will have to put the marketing efforts.
Currently i can only make iOS games though..

But again, mine was a paid game.. on free games people expect that.. i mean there are games that after each game over pop up the ad

Damn, I would love to test out one of your games, but alas I have android. I could not tell you if I can market it unless I can see it. Have you thought about learning unity? It lets you export to pretty much all platforms, this could greatly help your app get more notice.

P.S. It is also free up to I think $100k made.

Yes i'll move to unity soon or later, but currently i'm very comfortable with my game engine so i can speed up development time..

I developed games for 10 years. When it came to publishing on the app store, I found it was easiest to make money from simple 2 action arcade games. The right advertising will work wonders. I got multiple boosts in the app store from posting on reddit as well.

i run an andriod tv box cough with kodi and it plays ps1 games retro stuff
lotta good small game out for android, adds can get annoying but thats
a price u pay for a non AAA game. fair trade

Interesting... do you think i could buy some shoutout with 300$ ? Currently my market strategy is Facebook ads.

Facebook is fucking expensive, only company level has enough resources to boost game install with Facebook.

My companies work with hot girl/guy who has a lot of active follower on Facebook. their usual rate is $50 per s/o, but we have to design the ads in the way not making them a sellout
