Digital Millennium Copyright Act

Alright everybody... I bet a lot of you are aware of this act and the effects it has.

I'm trying to put together a paper in which I discuss how the Digital Millennium Copyright Act affects the business world. Anyone got any comments regarding publication, record companies, companies on the internet, etc.

I'm having a tough time coming up with some good effects on the business world. I got a few little things but I could really use some outside comments.

Anyone? It doesn't have to be much. Just some hints on what I could write about. Anything the act has done to affect the way business is handled? I mentioned the increase in popularity of the paid music download industry. Any other examples?

What it really helped to do was expose the RIAA as fuckfaces for sending lawsuits through ISP's to anonymous users via only an I.P. address. Only to watch Apple come in and make a profitable billion dollar industry out of legal downloads and pioneer a forefront digital content distribution and technological advancements in handhold electronics.

Like them or not - You could right the entire paper on APPLE alone for there achievement with the iPod and several variations of that....

By the way .. the RIAA then tried the same business model approach to make downloads legal and acquire the SAME VERY CUSTOMERS THEY BLINDLY SUED!!!

Thanks for the input. It was a nice read and I incorporated it into my paper.

Anyone got anything else as far as content goes? Maybe even internet companies. I'm stuck and don't know what else to say about the act affecting the business world.

The act is unworkable, the internet is freedom of speech and as such will always remain so dispute the attempts of government and large corporations trying to turn it into the matrix of modern times.

The act is also unlawful as it effects our human rights, whilst it is easy to try to control content with legislation it has the opposite effect by driving some great content underground.

We are aware of security issues and others that need to be adressed but the internet should be self policed if not then any content that is produced is contrived or editied to eliminate areas they want to control.

I think that statement summarizes a lot. These are the same entities that didn't know what was created but as soon as they discovered the possibilities - want control of that very system.

The truth is the internet finally created something for the people without limitations (almost).... - (unless you live in china). Where else can you so easily have a global reach almost instantaneously. The great part about it is, it is truly only in it's infancy.
