How to stop competitors from rephrasing my content?

I saw this happen in several different niches that I am in, but it is quite annoying and discouraging. I work hard on providing the best content in my niche. I do the research and try to put together the best article. It ranks 1st.

Then, some competitor pays a writer ($3/hour?) to rephrase (or manually spin) my content and several other top ranking sites. Then they bombard it with links and rank higher than me.

It is not my entire article that is copied, it is usually several paragraphs from each website that is ranking top in Google, all put together.

Google only catches word-for-word copies. It is quite unique if you glance at it, but if you read more carefully, you realize it is the same.

Will DMCA work if I report just a paragraph that was manually spun or copied from me?
How do you guys deal with it?

Most annoying part - it will kill my time-on-site and bounce rate if visitors realize that they already read something almost similar.

Welcome to BHW. They are focusing on the things which makes them rank, you do the same focus on backlinks aswell thats all you can do.

Don't you also copy others' ideas when researching a niche? What they do is also researching then putting the best idea to make good articles. What's the differences between you and your competitors?

Unless they copy whole paragraph without changing words, then they have problem. Otherwise, it is fine.

I used to worry about someone spinning the articles I carefully wrote, until I realized there isn't anything I can do to prevent it.
And any method you can think of to stop it, there's always gonna be a method to get around it.

Just try making your content immaculate and you will get rewarded. The leachers will have to settle for your crumbs.

lol what do you mean you write original article? All articles are derivations of someone else's work.

By original content - I mean, I do external research, and modify my content to the extent that it is different to the reader.

What others do - is modify the content to the extent that it is different only to Google, but identical to the reader.

This discourages me from thinking of creating new unique content and just hiring a writer myself and instructing him to rephrase other people's work. Is that really that easy?

That's how it is, John. You can only do so much. Instead of chasing them, spend your time and energy developing and improving your product.
For as long as they are not deliberately copying your work word-for-word, let them be.

I really wanted to play nice and be fair, but Google's lack of care is forcing me to play dirty and just copy others

You can disable right mouse click, ctrl+c, ctrl+a on your pages, so it won't be that easy to copy-paste and spin your content. Other than that you can't really do much, if someone decides to type your articles manually or uses a software, which recognizes writing on pictures (screenshots).

I use wp content guard plugin, it stops right click, linking to your images etc

Make a new unique content and with some updated info from the copied one. This will be good

I think those guard plugins only disable mouse and all. They can still copy through HTML source. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The one I use disables all, it's new to the marketplace, released a couple of days ago

Disable javascript in browser (tons of browser extensions for this)
copy at will :)

You can't stop those especially they rephrase and only copied some parts of your content. Just what others have said, you can disable copy-paste on your website. Though it can be easily bypassed by some experts. But at least you can reduce the extent of people copying your content. Also, create more quality backlinks to your site. That will help.

Does Pepsi fear RC Cola? Or do they just ignore recycled copies and know that proper promotion will keep people loyal.

The wp plugin will not avoid 100% but at least giving them a hardtime in rephrasing your article. Ithink it's legal to get data from different sources and just put it together in your own word.
