Dying cannot be the word used. Evolving or changing is what I feel. Also the exchange rates keeps on changing and price skyrocketing to such a way that newcomers cannot afford it.

We helped make Google the monster that it is today.
They now have the ability to reverse engineer what is working.
They get tremendous data from just the use of indexing services.
But, until they come up with a better alternative to backlinks, blackhat/whitehat will still play a role.
In my humble opinion, every time you create a backlink it is blackhat. It is like saying I had sex with the girl but I used a condom, but you still had sex.
Just Food for thought:
Just because your backlink is indexed does not mean it is within the Google guidelines or will help you rank.
Sooner rather than later, the people you outrank will come after your site with a vengeance. Remember it is global competition now, so, moral thinking in the West will not be the same in other areas of the world. There used to be clear guidelines of ranking in the good old days, but now Google got us fighting each other while they laugh all the way to the bank using the content we create.
Finally, let us all drop the pretentious attitude for every backlink you get is blackhat or against the Google guidelines, or can be interpreted as such. What we need is a robust search engine competition to bring Google down to size.

I am hearing this question since last 15 years. There was a time when all you needed to do is upload million junk pages and you will start ranking. Then with algorithm change this empire was wiped away. Then came the time of purchasing expired domains. Then it was purchasing links. Then purchasing content at high pagerank sites.
Point is BH will keep adapting as new algorithm is evolving. One has to always stand on their toes in this blackhat world.

If an arctic wolf won't grow fur, the cold will leave him dead. My take is, evolution is always going to be there. change is inevitable and the best way to remain afloat is to always keep up with the changes. If Google tries harder to knock out Blackhat SEO, then Blackhat SEO will need some more muscle to keep in the game and remain relevant.
(I am more of a parable guy, I find it easier to communicate indirectly.)

please all of you give up so there is more space for those that have a brain and persevere
I know why the OP thinks it harder because he is a - - buying seo services here on bhw ( not that all are bad but if you dont know what ur doing ur bound to get decreasing results ESPECIALLY if repeated and for higher competition as you will have unique root domain overlap among other things.

I think people who have discovered how to rank their sites high in google serps will not be foolish enough to share how they did it on BHW..or even SELL that method!! Duh! Google monitors EVERYTHING! Here also.. Duh! You have to develop YOUR OWN blackhat method.. and hide it like a pile of GOLD..bcoz that is what it is!!!!

Don't know about you or other guys as well but when I do search for products via google, half the amazon links that I get in the first page are nearly always:
"This product is currently unavailable"
WTF is that all about and why are they still at the top of the search results?

SEO is a game, it's all about test, error and success, search engine are too big they can't do indexing manually that's why they use algorithms, and an algorithm is created by a human so it can be gamed by a human.
Lots of time and patience. It's easy to say SEO is dying so I'm stopping it, in life nothing is easy you have to fight, fight and fight to achive your goals.
