always funny how whitehat SEOs try to make themselfs believe they are not trying to game the system, because they spam manually or beg for links.
as soon as you start optimizing your site for a search engine instead of humans, you are already trying to game the system trying to get an advantage over your competition.
then they run around and post manual comments, because they think that makes it any less spammy. if you would be really whitehat you would just "build great content without thinking about seo" according to google lol

@oldlii i agree, the name already says "private", yet people buy public PBN services and then wonder why it doesn't work. create your own PBN and you will see how good it works. its just most people are too lazy and rely on these cheap services to avoid doing things on their own. if a PBN is public its nothing more than a link farm, not a PBN.

Voted don't know because when it comes to SEO I'm just a bit too stupid.

After 4 years on this forum I still don't get it!

If you escape the massive user tracking and personal identification. That's mainly what changed in 10 years.

yes but you still rank with backlinks ;) not with shitty gsa backlinks like 5 years ago but still with backlinks :)

It is simply taking longer and back link profiles, communities and context are being weighed into the equation. Many think they have to buy more backlinks and spend more all you are doing is mudding the waters even more ... the only reason you are seeing an increase when you throw 100 backlinks at your site is because 5 of those are not corrupt yet ... Google is also sorting out tier 2 links now as well if they are bad apples ... contextual relavant quality backlinks from a source free of spam, pop ups and tier 2 or even 3 links is the future ... no more artificial gaming the system you actually have to add value to your keyword and SERP's the way it should be ... Google has to protect their product and Organic is the top of the list ... that is how they became king and they have to hedge against someone else figuring out how to serve better content to the customer ... sorry your Amazon, Ebay, pop up, click bate is not really adding value to the internet your run is over ... add something of value and hey I know maybe care about the products you sell and have passion and you will not have to worry about a thing.

You are exactly correct.

It has been pay to play for the past few years but now it is becoming a VERY expensive pay to play system.

We forget that for years people have milked organic google without having to pay a penny.

Google is a business and will milk it as much as possible with ads.

I work with very wealthy clients who use local seo to make serious serious money. paying me a few thousand a month on retainer for backlinks is not much when just ONE sale means hundreds of dollars of profit.

What you are really seeing is the erosion of easy, highly saturated marketing like affiliate marketing, adsense etc as profit margins were ALWAYS thin but you didn't have to pay for organic search rankings.

Now you do.

That simple :)

I would agree a bit but I would add that if you have no value to add to the internet, no passion, no product with a new twist, nothing new to consumers and you are just looking at making margins and reselling then you better invest all of your time in building your own solid organic backlink profile as about everything you can buy in 2 years is going to be mostly dead. The only way to really buy quality is to run ads with media outlets and have them include links, many media outlets are already selling SEO, LOCAL and backlinks now they have the power and the natural organic backlink profile. A local radio station with an average presence in an average market is going to be in the DA50-60 range ... go to an LA radio station they are going to be 60-70 range (Ahref not Moz who lags very slowly with their Domain Ranking). So from that point quality links are going to cost you big as those companies charge big for their media packages.

I would disagree about Google is a business and want to milk every penny ... they want organic search to serve customers the content they seek without spam, etc more then anyone ... they know how they where built and they do not want the next boy wonder to out game their algorithm by serving better content and selling it to bing - they know how important relevant search is they have spent 100's of millions on it ... when they could just be cashing in for the last 5 years.

It definitely takes more now than before. But, proper pbn links are still working for me. They aren't cheap or easy to get access to(for me at least) , but I've spent more money and time(money)on bad link services and "private" blog network services.
I guess if it's getting harder and more expensive to get results, then it will just weed out the competition.
My 2 cents

SEO isn't dying it out it just takes more intricate planning these days. Affiliate sites aren't dead. Interlinking, good on-page SEO and properly written content are the keys now. Without them, from my experience, all SEO efforts will go to waste. Just take a look at Grammarly, look at how they can improve an article so well within 30 seconds. Now, you don't think Google being the half trillion dollar giant can build better content recognition software?

I will say that in Amazon Aff, a lot of the niches are spammed to shit, but they aren't that difficult to beat. You just need cash to properly facilitate a good SEO plan.

Things that matter:
1. Link velocity
2. Content posting velocity
3. Good interlinking
4. Bounce rate
5. Good on-page
6. Properly written content

first item is the comprehensive form of third.

and if it is just poll not a census, why the owner send messages to everyone to participate in it?

Bc he wants people to participate in it?

This is just a wild guess, but this is a BH SEO forum. A discussion about the state of BH SEO seems appropriate, don't you think?

Unless you know something I don't.

I saw this weird alert: "Extremely engaging thread" it was so huge a paragraph I had to click on this thread. Now i'm bored -_-

you guys are all the same, you care about some shitty thing dying...what about the children in africa?!!! /s/

Yeah me too. In short blackhat is not dying. It's the change in algo, which might cause issues for some.

Add to it the fact that newbie start doing everything on client sites and deindex them even, without knowing what SEO means.

And then you'd see threads like this.

Harder, Yes.
Dying, No.

PBNs do work but not in an enterprise way (as it used to be) but more in an individual way. I use a private PBN just for my sites.

The only difference I see going forward is the expense (as the OP has said) and time involved . It is going to be more expensive and time intensive.

For eg, buying a PBN service took less money and time but owning own is money and time intensive.

One thing for sure, I do really wish that I had started on this at least in 2010.

BH has died and been resurrected more times than David Bowie and Frank Sinatra's career.

Just like with anything else-BH goes through cycles

In my opinion, its getting more and more difficult with each new update. Now it takes a lot more money, effort and time to rank even an easy keyword..

I think the problem is that people have no experience and/or imagination.

These new guys get frustrated when they do everything they're told by "experts" and nothing comes of it. So they freak out and ask if SEO is dead.

Then there's so much conflicting info.
  • Spam works.
  • Spam doesn't work.
  • Blog commenting is dead.
  • Blog commenting isn't dead.
  • EDMs don't work anymore.
  • PBNs are the only SEO you need.
  • DA matters.
  • Clean domains rank higher.
  • Google is interested in quality.
  • Google doesn't like bought backlinks.
  • Google wants your website to be mobile-friendly.
  • Google is the internet.
You can make arguments for or against any of these statements, and that's part of the problem.

SEO is not concrete. There isn't just one flat set of rules that you follow. Your formula for ranking depends on so many factors, and people don't realize that. They think there's just one blanket way to rank and when that way fails, they start crying and questioning everything.

So no, black hat SEO isn't dead. People just need to be more imaginative and willing to experiment.

Hang the code, and hang the rules. They're more like guidelines anyway.

Organic is the top of their list? Excuse me for being silly, but do you actually use Google as a search engine? Because to me, if we discount the now 4 ads Google has at the top of a "search engine" We are greeted with another 6 - 7 "search terms" this is to give a better "user experience". Now forgive me if I'M wrong. If I wanted 300 Amazon products ect........ forced down my throat, I'd have fucking well searched the well fucking known Amazon website. So what actually is Google offering in terms of "user experience"? Apart from abusing their power to rake in money from the big boys. Seems like monopoly abuse to me.

I hope everything is made easier for all who run the business smoothly and succeed.

Blackhat SEO is not dying. This is my conclusion.
We must adapt.
Just read some posts where some one before few months made blast of 40k,60k even 200k GSA or Senuke or whatsoever will be tool and is ranking on search engine when after 2 or 3 months see how he took 1 or second place on Bing and make at least decent money 10$ per day just with service of 3$.
What is ROI here? Imagine if this get in Complete SEO master with Full capacity mind how to take that advantage.
Now OP your question is not completely because you didn't mentioned in your question for which search engine is this question meant!
Google,Bing,Yandex,Baidu...?I will pass ? now as sign and add Facebook ,Reddit,Twitter which are separate and closed eco it systems.
If you use right you make money.
Where is Google now?You are bypassing Google.Correct.
New Marketing channels are opening doors.
Google as we all know have the largest piece of the pie yet, but what you all think other search engines just stood in place, not working.
They work maybe 10 times more than Google.
They have own GEO target audience and also that audience bring sales and revenue.
Hah
Bing lately had major improvements and have performance on ROI as before 4-5 years.
Ah those golden time.
Google is not alpha and omega of SEO.
Again to get back to "New Marketing channels are opening doors".
This is 1 phaze of adapting and Google give 1 strike to any SEO (black,white,grey,red,green...) from September 2016.
Must guys to get finally "out of the box".Forget Standard way of working SEO.
When I'm talking this and what I have to say regarding SEO ,I don't want to "insult" speakers of Ungagged, they will stay with mouth open.
I agree that upon us ahead is hard work and nothing but work.
No one works according webmasters guidance given from Google and 200 factors for ranking as Content and Backlinks as major ones.
Guys again get out of the box ,SEO as we know before even 8-9 months is not existing more.
Forget for On page SEO and quality of backlinks. Google lowered the link value of all High authority websites as Forbes,Inc,Huff,LifeHack and so on.
They even invented category of social signals which is totally bullshit.
No one search engine rely on such metrics because is out of their hands and can't control it.
Don't run for it anymore.
When you will see some SEO Company offer you plan web 2.0,then that and that and some PBN posts.Run from them.
This don't work anymore. You will waste a lot of money but no rank and no bank.
There are few threads where even spend over 10k for 8 months and didn't do anything.
Some one will say PBN are the strongest tool.
Yes maybe, but just 15% of all PBN worth something and yes, some one unique and private real private.Classic Blackhat asset worth spending time and money.
But those will not get you on 1 place.Never.
I so far bought maybe 30 PBN packages from BHW VIP Jr and so far I can't say that I'm please with them.
Maybe will get some decent rankings but for money is not worth.
Just 1,2 and maybe 3 place if I target Google get conversions.
Stay away from Guest Blog posting also, is not worth.
Also and latest our biggest so called IM marketers Briean Dean and Neil Patel they started to send emails on daily basis which is on edge of spam which was not case earlier if you are their subscriber.Think about a liitle bit and get conclusion.
I will not give you on plate all answers, think must think BHW member.
Good night to all.
