Investing 5000$ in crypto

Hi guys! I am about to put 5000$ in 4 major currency:
ETH, NEO, XRP and 10 or 15% in BTC.
I plan to use also a hardware wallet(ledger) to store all the coins.

My plan is to buy BTC transfer it to Bittrex, exchange it to ETH,NEO,XRP and then send it to my personal wallet.
Any tips regarding the transfer/wallet/ platform choice for buying BTC ? (I don't need any investment advice) ?

Your private keys are securely protected inside the Secure element of your device. This is the purpose of using hardware wallets - you don't have to display these private keys.

Yeah but if a skilled mathematician and hacker can reverse engineer the ECDSA algorithm and forge it, he/she can produce the private key for any bitcoin address in existence. It's rare though.

UPDATE : Just bought a hardware wallet (expected to arrive in 2-5 days)

Maybe not relevant to OP. Avoid poloniex. I am daytrading and usually load $1k to play with it. Funds got stuck during withdraw, and 4 days later, support still didn't answer my ticket. Their support is terrible.

Ok, I just realized I need to update my knowledge on this thing. If it has nothing to do with stock trading it could be worth a look. Thanks for the shock, I will head for the criptocurrency forum now for a deep research.

Warning to all crypto wannabes:
1) don't play with more than you are ready to lose
2) leave emotions out of it
3) always assume big players are manipulating the market, making huge profit, leaving average joes in negative expected value.
4) make sure not to invest in scamcoins, shady ICO (initial coin offerings), or anything that has +300% daily growth but very low daily volume
5) triple check the security, enable 2FA, use strong passwords, don't trust 3rd party sites more than you have to
6) do not fall for youtube trading gurus, who claim how easy it is to predict price movement. They all analyze what they did on fully visible graph after it happened. My blind grandma can do that.
7) even if your strategy worked 5 times in a row, it doesn't make it a good strategy. If strategy has +2% if you guess right, and -10% if not , 5 hits in a row still doesn't mean a thing
8) make greed and fear your allies, not your enemies
9) if you are emotionally unstable, do buy&hold

I've spent 1000 euros on LTC, NEO and SC each and 500 on VERI, still got 1500 left for other coins, just waiting for the right time now, I bought BTC from localbitcoins and transfered it to bittrex, bought other currencies with it, then stored it in desktop wallets, LTC I bought directly from btcdirect to my desktop wallet

Bittrex is awesome. and man i know you dont need trading advice, but you could make way more putting it on an ico. Right now on Dimcoin is instant profit, or wait for bitdice ico next month. ETH and XPR are a gamble. NEO is the only good thing you have there. Just my opinion, Good luck!
