Hey Guys, not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong here, I registered a new domain back in January.
Got it lightning fast hosting, a speedy theme and optimized the heck out of it so it's crazy fast.

I had 30 web 2.0's created and sprinkled with GSA blasts. All of which decent relevant content on them which I slowly drip linked to my site over 6 months. In addition, I had 100 comments from relevant websites slowly linked to my site. Also, I use addmefast for very slow social signal drop feeding. Most links were to internal pages, mostly without anchor texts. The website has a silo structure and the on-page SEO was done by myself to be a perfect blend of LSI words and not spammy atall.

The website has over 20,000 words of quality content, checked by myself and re-wrote to be top tier. Finally, the website UI is substantially better than the competitions, it looks like a legit site. Yet my sites main keyword is on page 3 with one incredibly minor term on page 1.

I just don't get it atall, I found it easier to rank my main business site. Any ideas?

What sort of difficulty scores were the main keywords you are chasing ?

Pretty damn easy, I verified all of the competition in Majestic and Ahrefs, the top result has 3 links apparently (4 in ahrefs). But it varies from 18 - 25 max in difficulty score.

maybe you overoptimized your page ...
kw looks really easy.

I don't think so, the keyword is in the title, description, H1 and URL. LSI keywords are sprinkled in the page itself but not spammed.
Things have changed a little since I worked in SEO so I might be a little rusty.

sounds like your site needs more authority. when I'm stuck like this I use Leith's moresignals

sometimes it's not about what you did but what you are missing

A few ideas:
  • Your competitors could have a hidden PBN
  • Comment links are incredibly weak, even 100 of them
  • How did you silo it?
  • Have the rankings danced at all or has it been consistently page 3?

Run it through; verifyseo.com see what that gives you feedback as, if you've time.

I'll check it out in a bit, much love for Leith over the past few years.

It's consistency been on page 3, it basically started there 3 months ago and never moved. I figured they may have a PBN, but the 30 results before mine are unlikely to all have PBN's is the conclusion I came too.
Comment links are basically garbage, but they are all manual, on high PA pages and I wanted to get some relevance in there instead of having all generic web 2.0 sites.

I'll give that a go, thanks man!

On a side note, what would happen if you moved all of your content to a new domain name? Making a 301 redirect from where it used to be ofcourse.
I was thinking it may be worth getting an expired domain that is already ranking in the field over my 6 month old domain.

Purely theoretical question.

For god shake sometimes I can't even rank to page 1 with a few hundreds of bucks spending on a 5/100 keyword.

You're right. Very unlikely.

I'd hit it with 5-10 strong PBNs. Avoid anymore social signals, web 2 and comments. Some nice strong links will get you in the top 10 and go from there.

lol you made 30 fresh webs in 6 months and you expect to rank?

Against a #1 spot with 3 backlinks and 300 words of content.. yeah, I did.

Doesnt matter.

I have a 2 year old TUMBLR EMD outranking me that has 70 weak spam links.

If I was to make 140 links I probably would have to wait 2 years Till I outrank him so I go straight forward for more links (and better ones)

Age matters... a lot. If the top 10 are all old, they have a huge advantage. And if they are on an authority platform, they have an advantage.

Is your site properly Silo'ed? Look into it's structure.

Second, get some high end links to that site. If it is silo'ed well you can send then to hub pages and watch the juice effect many pages.

"Your on page SEO Report. Score: 10/10" - Still got it, apparently :p
Lets get some bad ass PBN's going in here and i'll report back, it was seriously easier to rank my business website than this **** and the ROI will be awful but this is now a matter of pride :D

Well, I believe all you need now is some good PBN's or guest posts to push it forward.

Odd, no one asked xD, how many of your 30 web2.0s are indexed? Also, are the comment backlinks no follow & are they indexed? Two very important questions that could solve the mystery and lastly, are you getting any traffic?

Another thing you said "Most links were to internal pages" suggesting these 130 links were spread across the website rather than to the target page, for the target keyword, does help but with the web2.0s being weak + low index rate there's a chance you might be passing very little juice to your website.

From what you stated you seem to be ranking purely off the quality of your content and nothing more.

I was on page 2-3 until a few months ago (site has been aged for 1 year now) I starts to rank on page 1 for keywords I have never even sent links to. Age is key as well as domain authority.
