The service looks very Good. Quick test on a french server

Dl speed : 50Mbps (300Mbps without vpn)
Ul speed : 30Mbps (30Mbps without vpn so i guess its a simetrical 50Mbps )

Nope, you don't have to buy anything, you can use it for free, there will be always free ~400 slots, other premium users payments must cover cost of free users.

If that's the case you could reduce the number of free slots from 400 to 40 and give these 40 a 12 months licence for free.
