Did my PBN get discovered?

I'll be the first to admit that i am newbie when it comes to this stuff.

I have tried to rank a website for a local business with relatively low competition. After about 6 weeks I made it to rank 12 for one of the key words and rank 20-22 for the rest of them. I didnt know much about keywords so when i pulled up my competition on SEMRush, i noticed that my competition had like 250 keywords and they were the number #1 spot for quite a few of the highest traffic ones.

I only had like 8 keywords according to SEMRush. So i thought, I'm a newb and i need to immolate what these guys are doing. So that's what I did. I took around 100 of the keywords that my competition was using and added them to my website.

I am also using a 15 website PBN and RankerX web 2.0s as my tier 1s and then I GSA spammed for my tier 2s. Also, I'm pretty sure i didnt do everything right when building my PBNs (first time doing it) but I did all the obvious stuff, like only hosting 1 website per server. Using different names for every single one.

After i did the keyword update on my website my rank went from 12 to 42 on the keywords I had already ranked. Is this common or did the big G discover my PBN and penalized me?

Ranking fluctuations are the name of the game. It happens, you should be more concerned if the rankings just drop off the face of the earth.

If your PBN is discovered, the links from that site or network of sites are gone. If you didn't set up your PBN correctly, or left any kind of footprints along the way, then if even a single site is spotted (via automatic penalty through algorithm or through a manual penalty), your entire network can be compromised.

Read some guides on setting up PBNs properly, and just ensure you minimize any mistakes moving forward.

A 15-site PBN isn't anything crazy, it's a good start, but not monumental. Use this as a learning experience and keep improving. PBNs will always work, when done correctly (i.e. no footprints)..

Sorry to say but I hate posts like this where you are basically messing ( potentially ) with a business owners livelihood.

Did you explain to the owner of this business you were new, unsure of what you were doing but you were willing to risk his website/business to expand your knowledge?

It's like getting onto a bus with your family to find the guy driving has only just passed his car licence the day before and never driven a bus.

One of the mistakes i made, (and i'm kicking myself for this one). I do a lot of my PBN stuff at work. I built my whole PBN in chrome while logged into my work gmail account. Call me dumb or an idiot, I deserve it but i didnt think about it until I read someones post about how to really minimize footprints. Oh well live and learn.

Did you explain to the owner of this business you were new, unsure of what you were doing but you were willing to risk his website/business to expand your knowledge?

I am not doing this for anyones business. I was doing this to see if i could build a website that would generate leads, and then sell them to businesses.

I dont think i could do that to an actual business. Especially using a PBN for something established. I could really mess up someones life that way.

I used different names for the hosting and the domain registrations. I used some domain registrations as private and some i didnt. I read that all private domains registrations can be a footprint. I have a decent amount of disposable income and I really wanted to learn about Internet marketing. I sent like $400 dollars on the PBN which isn't alot of money for me to lose if I made a bunch of mistakes. College cost a hell of a lot more and i feel like I learned a lot about SEO just bubbling around with what I have already done. Effective or not effective, at the least I will know one way not to build a PBN. I wish I read @Nargil stuff before i built it. He seems to know a lot about this stuff.

Well if you are reading Nargil's post you are on the right track dude
You used different nameservers for each then That's good indeed!

You also need to have clean domains, and avoid spamming them as you do.
But that's just my 2c

Seo is often trial and error, plus what works well today might not be as effective next month, next year.

God I hope so. I've seen it dance 5-7 spots in a matter of 2 days but never have i seen 30 spots. We'll see.

Using different names on hosting is not necessary, those information are private. With domain registration, definitely mix up fake stuff with Whois. If you want to be super safe, then just fake stuff.

Also, this may not have anything to do with your PBN. Actually, I doubt it's PBN related. You may have overoptimized your site, screwed densities and so on, which is imo, the problem here.

I don't know what a mess you've done but:
- GSA links are the worst think you can do
- PBNs cannot be created with expired domains successfuly (Many people do that but it IS NOT good)
- Did you checked the history of the bought domains? Have they ever been used as PBNs? Are they spammed?
- Were the domains hosted on same IPs? If yes, it's easy to guess why.

And, you may not be down forever. Google dance these weeks so be patient.

I GSA spammed to my rankerX web 2.0s. I'm not certain if it helps all the much but i feel like if i screwed up there i can easily take down those 2.0s.

Aren't pretty much all PBNs built off of expired domains. Almost everyone agrees on BHW that PBNs work if done correctly. I'm not going to deny that every once in a while someone says what you said but the overwhelming sentiment is that they work. I did check for spam. I did check the IPs. I followed @Nargil guide for getting expired domains. The only thing I wish i did better when selecting domains is get all RD10+. The first couple i bought only had RD6. THe last 8-10 are all RD15+ with decent TF and CT. I didnt really know how important RD was i first started.

So you are saying that people can't use expired domains for PBN.. how did you discovered it? What makes you think like that? How many expired domains have you used for PBN? 50? 500? 5000?
