On-Page SEO with Wordpress

Hey guys im having issues with my on-page SEO with wordpress. Specifically the description of my site that appears in the google search results.

Ive only just started using wordpress for my sites. I'm using the all-in-one-seo plugin to add meta tags (description and keywords) to my pages. When I add a meta description this should be the description that shows up in google right? This has been the case with my non WP sites.

Unfortunately even after adding a description meta tag to my WP pages with my desired description, google is still pulling a random paragraph from my body for the search description. This is a real problem because it doesnt contain my keyphrase, so my ranking is extremely low.

Can anyone help me with this?

try and use platinium version from the seo plugin ... it's far away better , and more ... it's important to remember that updating your already indexed pages take some time ....

Check the G cache date...if it is before you made the changes then that will tell you straight away that is purely a timing issue.

Platinum SEO is basically rebranded all-in-one SEO with a few additional features added, I even had to switch back to AIO SEO because platinum SEO was bugging.

The easiest way to check is to look at the source code of the page and make sure the meta description tag is correct. If the source code isn't correct then make sure the plug is enabled (it doesn't auto-enable). Check the other flags too and see what you might have missed. I use All-In-One and it works great.

Kind of on the same topic, does anyone have any tips for what links etc should be displayed on a wordpress blog for maximum on-site seo benefits? Do you have tags displaying? Do you have a link to the previous and next article or do you prefer to contextually link?

this has nothing to do with your ranking. Google's bots scan the entire page so it's not like they are 'skipping' the keywords.
