How do you do SEO for a fairly large Business News Portal which gets 2 M visit in a month?

Well if you have no idea what you are doing in SEO and the site has 2m visits a month then don't get someone who knows what they are doing to do it .

If you do then i would look where the problems are. Look at trimming down some of the useless pages, clean up the index, fix any technical problems and go from there.

You already get 2 million visits per month and you need SEO? is this all organic or from Google News?

If you got 2 million views a month you should at least monetize and adsense it if you haven't already,

Yes you have already 2 M views then why you don,t use these 2m for erining with any other idea like convert vistor into clinet or use adsnese or many other things you need to focus on, rather then seo.

This is not my site

This is a big publishing house who run this finance and business news site.

Now they want to increase the traffic by 20% per month

So i wanted to figure out is there any special tips and tricks for NEWS site.

I only see tips for small / niche website and i am quite aware of those and i have been doing it.

So was wondering if anyone here has experience with NEWS publishing site, thats why i started the thread.

Hope some one can point it to me. Some broad general tips or videos about the same would be highly appreciated

I worked for big news sites in SEO :

some advice:

- identify evergreen content with stable visits and try to optimize/update them regularly
- split titles (one title for Google and one title for visitors)
- create optimized topic sites/category sites where the user finds all the information (videos, images, content) to a specific topic
- republish those articles with high traffic, big SEO chances or social media hits
- train your editorial team in terms of SEO, show them how important it is
- research for upcoming events and create a topic catalogue that dictates when to publish a certain article (google trends helps)

I handle several Google News websites in terms of their daily news writing needs.
If the owner of that website wants to hike up their traffic by 20%, you first need to check their top 5 sources of traffic and focus on those sources.

If the main source of traffic is Facebook, check their engagement with their followers. The engagement level might be something that can be improved.

If the main source of traffic is Google News itself, have you ever thought about scaling up the number of news articles you get every day? Which news categories get the highest traffic? You may want to add more news articles for the top 3 categories that get the highest traffic.

Get the traffic to interact with the website .

All the above will help to get more traffic.

It also improve engagement and that will improve indexing height in google.

Then your get even more traffic.

In that case what needs to be done in terms of SEO...

as pointed out previous, focus on what is getting those views

at this point it is not SEO
news sites if publishing current news are on their own news feeds
start doing your homework and dig into what is driving those views

then work from there
