Hello, my site received this thin content penalty. I was ranking 1st for 1 year or more for some competitive terms. Some of my friends received that too. Now my site is at the 5-6 pages of google.

What would be the best approach to rank again and what to do before sending reconsideration request?

How long in your experience reconsideration lasts?

Steps i done: Added more quality content to my page also some images. I have just a few pages on my website but made sure all pages get at least 400-500 words on them. Home page 700-800 words

Thank you for your answers and any help.

Same happened to me yesterday also

There is little you can do to speed up the process of reevaluation mate. Apart from enriching your articles you will have wait for them to check your website again this may from 10 days to over a month. Keep working on your site and you will be back up before you know it.

I read some opinions that this could be related to Fred update? I saw another websites (not mine) ranked for competitive terms to drop also.. All i can relate to them is that they had a really little content and probably less than 400 words at the first page.

You're gonna have to put in a lot of good content and wait for google to put you back to the top. Just keep adding quality content that people will interact with.

Does anybody got this penalty in recent days too? i saw that my other two websites got it too.. they were completely different niches sites not related to each other in any way or form..

add content on the earlier ranked pages as well ...

Damn! Thin content penalty is really bad. It means Google sees no or very little value in your content. You will have to delete all or most of the content. Or, you will have to re-write them.

Matt Cutts had mentioned that you could simply delete the scraped article portion of the website, then submit a reconsideration request.

OP, try to add fresh pages by building quality articles and add social signals.

Increase the length of the articles too, 800 words is nothing especially nowadays.

Thanks i have added more content but did google care if it is 700 or 800 word article?
Maybe anybody know if there is possible to send reconsideration request and google let you know what exactly you need to change? My first appeal was denied.

Thin content penalties have nothing to do with word count.

Read Google's manual reviewer guidebook (available online) follow that in terms of the "quality content' sections. Then wait it out. Unfortunately we do not see many sites come back from thin content penalties quickly. It may take months, even up to a year.

If you're looking for a quick guide:

- Use semantically and topically relevant keywords
- Keep kw density for primary keywords low
- INcrease the readability factor of your pages by using proper page structure
- Use relevant images every 300 or so words
- incorporate on-page user engagement tools
- increase word counts to 1500+
- incorporate social media sharing tools
- use external references and links to authoritative resources (no-follow is fine)

That should get you started and keep you busy for a while : )

Best of luck to you!

Make sure your on-site optim is ok : Is your website mobile ready ? Google AMP ?

Did you get some crappy backlinks ?

Did you check the strategy of your competitors to understand why they rank better than you suddenly ?
