Google penalty - How long does it take to recover after fixed?

Did you get deindexed or just rank went significantly lower? I had mine back from the dead after 3 weeks (not deindexed, but penalized for stuffing 20% keyword density). What I did was to lower the density to 2% and it went back to the 2nd page. Built more links and got to the first page.

it,s depends on penalty type, if your site is deindexd then it take much time, and if some miner penalty then atleast it will take 3 to 5 minths.

It may takes months to get away the penalty
How do you know it was exactly 20%? How did you calculate that?

You can check the keyword density with any site audit software that analyzes the content, it simply checks the overall word count and comes up with the density for any keyword you check.
Basically, the recovery time really depends on how you got penalized exactly. If your rankings dropped, you should simply focus on fixing the issue, and improve the troubled aspect as much as possible; and if all done right, you should gradually go back up within several months. If your page has been de-indexed - fix the issues, make sure the page has never been better and then submit it to Google for revision once again, to let it know you`ve done the homework, and it should also re-index it, not immediately but in a while.
