Selling a digital product. What to expect?

I hope someone could give me some insights on selling digital products. I would love to target those who have done this previously and have practical knowledge that would love to share.

Anyway, I have started a website in a self-improvement niche and targeted mostly two or three smaller micro-niches in the industry with posts I have been creating. Instead of relying on Adsense or affiliating with some products, I made a decision to create my product that I will be selling on my website. It is a digital product, an eBook of quite a length. 25,000 words uniquely written about a subject I know a lot. I feel that what I have created is unique and of a high quality. I have also formatted the entire thing and now I am waiting to receive an eBook cover specifically designed for this product.

I plan to drive most of the traffic from three or four sources that I know will do fantastic for this niche. I believe traffic won't be a problem, but I have never personally sold any digital products myself so that is why I am asking for some help and advice.

How to price my product?

How to maximize sales? I am in the process of creating my own sales page and I will integrate it with my blog. My website will mostly be revolved around blog posts and the product I am selling but I do not know if this is enough to maximize the sales process.

What conversion rate can I expect?

Has anyone been selling digital products in this niche before? What are your observations? Has anyone dealt with selling digital products in other niches?

What are the traffic sources you would utilize?

Am I missing something?

Any general advice?

People have spent millions and decades on figuring out the best prices. The magic number is 9, (e.g. $8.99) compared to $10 looks better. And it's just a dollar short so nbd. Black gives a premium look, and green (buttons) sell. But don't go matrix because ppl hate that.

The price should not be too much to scare people away and not too low for you not to genrate enough profits. Find a sweet spot between the two.

It depends on your competition.
Do you have competitors? If so, what are they charging?

Then you ask yourself, do you want your product to be better/different?
If so, make sure it is, then you can charge 50% more than what they are charging.

It feels good to stand out, charge double and live good.

Your biggest problem will be legitimacy, have you considered selling your book though Amazon rather than directly on your site?

If its only ebook you can sell it though online book stores like kindle etc. which will get you sales really fast, instead of creating a site and establishing it and then selling your ebook. If traffic is not a problem you can simply start it. Conversion rate will depend on your product quality once its ready and customer requirement.

Just check books price selling in same niche for pricing. If possible setup a LP and submit your product in CB, JVzoo etc.

Selling it on Amazon Kindle is out of the question. They take about 40% of my profits after all fees are deducted, and prices of eBooks are significantly lower than if I decide to publish it on my own website.

I understand that legitimacy of what I am selling is in question. That is why I am building a website around it, something that will build and instill trust into my customers. I am also giving one short eBook for free in order to collect some email addresses, and again, build some trust initially.

Publishing on Amazon Kindle is fantastic... but only for those looking to publish a lot of books. Competition is huge on that platform. I feel like competition is going to bury my book in the ground, lower the price and... well, kill profits. Also, selling on Amazon Kindle does not allow me an opportunity to build a sales page that I want.

I know that competition stays the same even if I decide not to use the platform like Amazon. But I will limit its power by setting things up the way I want and not having Amazon "eating" my profits.

My point is: I am not only looking to sell an eBook and make quick money. I am building the website because I love this niche and I believe the website can become huge in the upcoming years. Selling a product is just the beginning and doing it over Amazon Kindle is not something that I prefer.

You can unlist/remove your product from Kindle store any time you want, if I'm not mistaken.
If your product doesn't take off (go viral) then just delete it.
In the other case, if it does fire up, then you can bank quick and use that money to SEO your site.

And I would still have to give Amazon a good share of my profits and have more troubles fighting off the competition that is on the platform. I've gone through and researched what is on Amazon Kindle in my niche, and most of the books are below $10. I do not plan to lower my prices that much, I would at least charge it $15-$20. If I do that on Amazon, I would be charging 4x more than an average seller on the platform. It would be hard to convince people to buy my eBook and not theirs, especially because Amazon does not offer me tools to design a sales page the way I want it.

And if I already have a way to drive traffic to my website, I would surely not send it to Amazon and let them buy my book there. It seems like a big mistake.

If the book is part of a wider product range it sounds like you want to build a subscription base then, rather than a straight single product sell. That can be very lucrative if you know how. I had a book series that had about 2000 subscribers and made a lot of money.

Setting aside driving traffic. Doing it all yourself the management of it becomes a problem, the laws of various countries, taxes, returns etc.That is a real pain in the arse. So if you don't have any other products to push it is a bit of a waste of time.
