Should I hire an SEO person?

I'll be upfront and honest, I truly don't have the time to learn SEO. I run a local business, starting another one as well. However, it seems like my rankings are going back down. I read that it's a waste of money to hire someone to do SEO.

I run a business in a highly competitive area. If I do look to hire someone, what should I look out for and what should I ask when it comes to their SEO work?

lol.. Your thread title sounds like "should i eat today or not ? :p

Most people ask for previous work sample, Experience, case studies, repeated questions, blah blah,,

You can Simply ask the person to Tell one valid reason, "Why should i Hire you for SEO ?"
If the reason sounds #valid, #good to you, then talk about budget, plan & then decide whether he suits for your need.
 
If you have the marketing budget for it, definitely! I recommend that you split your budget across multiple channels (SEO, PPC & Social) instead of putting all of your eggs in one basket though.

Depending on what type of business you run, ask whoever is pitching you to explain some strategies they have implemented that have yielded good local SEO results. This can usually weed out some shit kickers, especially if you have some SEO knowledge.
 
Ask for results/experience in your particular niche. Always be careful when buying SEO services as 90% of "experts" know even less than you do.
 
I would hire someone local IMO, that way you can discuss your goals and try to meet them. Easier to communicate imo. I'm sure you can find some great candidates on here if you look :)
 
This is really complicated,
Yes as any kind of tasks you should hire some one to do instead just wasting time and money also the quality will be lower than hiring profisionals
But the main problem is that many and many of those who work in SEO will not provide a real progress/improvement they will work/proof and reply amazingly for your questions, and you should wait for a couple of months, THEN you may got nothing

To be honest I don't know what should you do or how should you choose!

If You don't have time, you must hire One Professional IM who've Experienced with overall optimizations . ;);)

Just check previous projects way of unique development Leads. :cool::cool:
 
Try to find a Certified SEO Expertwith at least 5 years of experience. Tell him your goals and your needs.

Ask him about the methods he will use to promote your business. Are you going through all steps of SEO?

1. Keyword Research
2. Competition Analysis
3. On Page Optimization
4. Off Page Optimization
5. Social SEO

If he is a professional and has signed NDA's with his customers then it will be difficult to provide you with POC but you can ask him if he can show to you his own website.

If his own website it's not at the first page of Google then how can he bring your page on 1st page of google?
 
I agree that if you would like to improve your ranking. Just not stick with SEO but also with other methods as well. It's best to hire not only someone who's good with SEO but also with keywords that are necessary for your site/market to improve.
 
Go ahead and hire ... it is a must when you have competitors in your niche

truth be told - having no time to learn SEO is a bad idea. Without some knowledge beyond the basics you are bound to hire the wrong person.

That being said, SEO is a lot different than back 10 or 5 years ago. You can't just hire a guy and he will stuff some keywords at the end of your site and spam some links at it. These days there is so much more, and it really boils down to creating quality content and a quality network. That's actually more the job of the webmaster and less so of a SEO guy. They'll usually do some stupid audit, hand you a booklet of actionable crap and charge you 2 grand for a service you can do yourself, using free software, in 5 minutes.

If you really got no time, then hire a good copywriter and have a SEO expert give him some advice ever so often. Might want to hand an seo agency some funds to do some link building for you. As long as you tell them to use it only on link building and not other stuff.
 
Yeah, You should hire a SEO guy if you want to promote your business. But, Select the Good Knowledgeable Guy, They really can help you out.

As my suggestion, you need to know some people who know SEO. And interview him to show some previous results of their project. By analyzing all the data that he/she provide, then you can make the decision.
 
You should know basic SEO. Because if you know nothing about SEO, how can you hire the right person? And with bad quality SEO, your business will totally f*** up.
 
hire someone based on serps results improvement not backlinks count , first task prepare the best keywords list to target .
