1and1 Experience, Anyone else? - Don't Recommend

I bought a domain on 1and1, I asked for a refund and cancellation of my contract.

I called support to verify the cancellation. They said it would happen 48 hours after the date provided.

I wait for the domain to be released to the public, (I don't think they refunded me yet)
They are now holding an auction for the domain I purchased.

Is this normal? Is this domain now out of my hands?

It is, potentially. If they refund you, they eat up the registry fees. If the domain is worth any value, they will hope to recoup the registry fees and some more depending on how the auction goes.

1and1 is the worst hosting provider I've used.

I had dozens of domains and sites hosted there, and when I wanted to transfer they essentially put them on lockdown.

I had a dedicated server long time ago and i couldn't upload files while i had 75% of disk space available ... They told me this was due to quotas and that i couldn't have more than xxxx files ... Nightmare experience ...

I have moved to another provider and i'll never go back

What status was your purchase / refund?
Check if there is any grace period.

I requested to close my account/contract, I have no access to either anymore. Domain still seems to be registered under 1and1 (I checked who.is)

I wouldn't touch them with a barge. Why do they try to bill your payment method two month after payment? Then if your payment fails, hold your domain to ransom.

It's pretty fucking straight forward. I pay, you take the fucking money. At no point is there any fucking need for the two month wait.

Then bump up the prices to unsuspecting customers.

I have one suggestion for you. It helped with my fiasco (several months and hundreds of dollars of illegitimate charges to my credit card later).

- Post a review on TrustPilot. File a complaint with Better Business Bureau. A manager finally got back to me and refunded me $120 for the past year, and canceled my account, just because they didn't want the truth out there. It's the only chance: just fuss a whole lot in a public arena and try to get them to see it.

And then get horrible reviews from the pros that would otherwise spread the word about them. Not smart.

This sounds like a scam more then a business model. They are ridiculous.

I've tried to become their customer couple of times, especially with 5 domains at $1 offer or something like that. They somehow never managed to deliver those my way and I just gave up. If I want to purchase something no matter how big/small it is and company fails to provide that and have me as a customer I can only ask myself how it will become down the road if any issues arise.
