Yes I have done a link from home page and also A link from an inner page.

I have seen examples though of people having say 10 articles and every article has 2 or 3 links all to the same moneysite and nothing else. They then wonder why they get slapped.

Sorry, can you explain to me what you mean by "footprint?" Is that evidence of link building that doesn't look natural? I'm new here and trying to learn all the lingo.

You can try both. But when the links on home page, it will pass more link juice. I use both home page and inner pages.
